Requested Elgar's 'Nimrod' played by the Grimethorpe Brass Band to be played between 12-2 on the 29th of May on Classsic F M (100-102) with a message of good luck to Barnsley team and supporters at Wembley.
Elgar got there first though - His 'Variations' composed in 1898 -- Nimrod by Green Day (never heard of them) 1998.
Nimrod is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written....and am an old Bowie/Rock/ Northern Soul fan
We leave Classic FM playing for the dog when we go out. They piped it into the kennels at Dog's Trust where he came from and it seems to do the trick for the old lad.
Shostakovich, specifically the 5th symphony. Even more specifically, the 1982 recording by Kurt Sanderling with the Berlin SO. Obviously not. No idea what he likes ...
Elgar's Second Symphony is one of my all-time favourites. Not anywhere near his best known, but it caught my ear listening to the proms in 2017 whilst marking exam papers and I've loved it ever since. The second movement is one the most complex and majestically sad and beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. I'd have posted a link (of Barenboim's performance there) but seems to have been taken down from youtube.
