my mother in law is 85 a wheelchair user and totally deaf she keeps getting texts off of a firm called wescot telling her to phonr them urgentley. I have phoned them and asked how can she phone them when she is deaf,.towd lass is crying and hasn't sleeped for 2 nights i phoned them again and they asked about this bloke [ can't remember is name ] they said a client had gave them this number and have since texted har again after promising that they would not do this, they seem to be a debt collecting firm, as anyone else on the board had this happen, this is now bordering on harrasment and not sure what further steps to take be grateful for any advise.

Wescotc are deffinatly dept collectors i can confirm sounds like something probably not been paid by mistake. Get a woman to call and claim there account holder quiet illigal but if you get away with it least you can get it sorted.

Westcott are like a dog with a bone.... Had an issue with them years ago.... The number they had was my mothers, even though she told them I wasn't living their and gave them my mobile they continued to ring her upto 3 or 4 times a day 7 days a week, at any time of the day from 8am to 9pm. Even after I spoke to them and updated my details, informed them they were chasing something I'd already paid they would still ring her number day in day out. To stop it I ended up paying the amount and then claiming it back from the company that transferred the debt to them in error.

But they are a legitimate company, so if that was your concern don't worry they ain't con men, just a pain in the ass.

Right explain to them they have 24 hours to remove YOUR MOTHERS number from their records. Explain you want confirmation of this in writing within seven days otherwise you'll be reporting them to the relevant bodies. Namely ofcom, oft and the ico.

    That should do the trick.

If you want me to knock you up a letter, pm me your email.

My mate is a landlord and he deals with this firm regularly when they chase debt left behind by ex tenants. I asked him and he pretty much said the same as the advice given by DEETEE. They are relentless sods but stick by your guns and you'll get rid of them. Good luck mate.
