Well Done Shukes Clear player of the year according to the results. Always gave his all for us and shame he didn't get the Wirral boys up, so that he could return to us next season.
Definitely. Our problems started when GS decided not to resign him. We would not have shipped the number of goals we did if we had kept him. Always gave everything and tracked back to cut out crosses, something we have missed this year.
Aye, reight you are No doubt we missed his fantastic crossing ability too. More classic comedy. Decent League 1 player- no more, no less.
Can't say I agree with that.. I liked Shukes and would have kept him to play on the bench, but Devaney is a better quality player than Shuker I think.
And who have we brought in since? McCann and Mattis! Decent League 2 players, no more, no less.
And all for a bargain £175K the pair!(doh)

Don't disagree about Devaney. But Mattis and McCann for £175K or Shukes for nowt? Not much of a contest to me I'm afraid.
RE: Can't say I agree with that.. Devaney played on the left and Shuker on the right , when they both played. I cant understand how some people got all upset that Devaney was playing on the wrong wing at the end of this season, he played there most of last season????
To replace McParland and Healy perhaps? Our problems started (no matter at who's door you lay the blame) when we failed to make the necessary signings in the close season. Neverthess the signings and the manager obviously and undeniably improved our post november results enough to survive
yep seemed silly to let him go i guess we don't know his demands. Think McCann is OK - not a worldbeater but I think its a bit harsh to say he is league 2 standard. Not sure about Mattis, very unfair to judge him on a handful of games so I am going to reserve judgment. I think Davey will want two people for one position challenging each other - presume he is sticking with Togwell/McCann - would like to see us sign someone to challenge Howard.
Correct, McCann is definately league 1 standard.
Who knows about Mattis as he has barely played a game for us.

What problems? Shuker was given 1 month to sign a contract and he didnt so we took it away from him, if he wanted to stay with us he would have signed straight away.

Good riddance i'd say.

Who cares if we shipped alot of goals, would you rather be in Leeds position then ours who shipped less goals then us?

Do you mean when he stalled on signing a new contract because he thought he would geta better deal elsewhere. Shepherd did the right thing in my opinion in letting him go. I want players who actually want to play for the club and Shuker demonstrated by his actions or inaction showed contempt to the club, the management, the board and the supporters.
He wasnt the only one that did it. He was the only one that had the contract taken back tho`. Says to me that it was not only a matter of signing the contract, there were other issues as well, but we will never get to know them, we dont need to know them . Things like that happen all the time, anyway its time we let sleeping dogs lie and concentrated on the players that still ACTUALLY play for Barnsley.
If you read the playoff final programme It was clear that he was a misfit at the club. Reidies comments about him painted him like a delusional loner. I liked that his nickname was Fed because of his large forehead.
Thing is he'd done exactly the same the summer before and only re-signed at the last minute. Much as I liked Shukes and think that we've missed him, it was the right decision to let him go. It would have been sending out the wrong message to the rest of the squad to let him dictate matters twice. No one player is bigger than the club.
