I clicked on your post to reply to originally then went on a different route with my post and didn't realise I'd replied to yours still while after I'd posted it.... I was just generalising on what I'd read on here over the last few days and it wasn't aimed at you I'm just a buffoon and didn't realise I'd not clicked off of your post to reply to....

You're not a buffoon mate. I make a half a dozen worse errors on here every day. I'm lucky if I manage to reply in the right thread, never mind to the right post.

Your saying he hasn't changed his mind. The way I see it is he has a 4 yr contract, barnsley offer less. So effectively he says I want to play and has agreed a contract, albeit a loan one. But in 6 months time the position will be different, If he plays well and we want him our offer wil meet his AND our position. Sometimes you have to play a pawn move forward to capture the king three steps later. You seem adamant he has turned us down but if my eyes are worse than Steve wonders I saw him don a barnsley shirt on Saturday.

You have made your mind up that it's his wage that's the reason he hasn't signed.

Yes because LJ said he's got a 4 year deal on Championship money but we are in League One so therefore can't offer him the same deal.

He's signed a loan contract, he's not a Barnsley player, he's still a Bolton player. He found our contract offer unacceptable. We wanted him to sign for us permanently but he turned us down. I'm really struggling to understand why people are refusing to accept this. If in the future he signs for us permanently then he will be a Barnsley player and I'll give my opinion on that, but I'm not talking about what ifs, what might be, what could happen, because I have absolutely no idea about what might happen, just what has happened. What has happened is he turned down our offer of a contract. You asked for a source on this. There are dozens. I'll give you one, but I could give you a lot more if you like...

Why I find this important is that a young Barnsley player also turned down our contract offer recently. Just like Wilkinson, he found it unacceptable. But where as Wilkinson is in our first team, Holgate is training with the academy and not being selected. Holgate has also come in for plenty of abuse on here and there is a significant amount of people who believe he shouldn't play if he won't sign the contract offered. Wilkinson won't sign the contract either, but he'll be playing. Holgate is actually committed to our club for longer than Wilkinson. Wilkinson until Christmas, Holgate until June.

"Sometimes you have to play a pawn move forward to capture the king three steps later."

I agree. We're hoping Wilkinson will change his mind after spending some time at the club, get to like it and accept lower terms. I haven't a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is that we haven't adopted the same approach with Holgate. We've a far better chance of keeping the player if we make him feel wanted, treat him with respect and play him. We're hoping Wilkinson will change his mind, well, Holgate is capable of doing that too, even if it is less likely. My thinking is if something is less likely and more difficult, then you try even harder. And I know one thing for certain, his value is much more likely to go up if he's playing for the first team than if he's frozen out of the side. If this Villa thing falls though but he still ends up leaving and it goes to a tribunal, they'd rightly say the buying team need pay next to nowt if we haven't been playing him.

Because that's what our manager said. I suppose I could not believe him if you like.

Your comparing apples with pairs. I accept. Your point, the bit I don't get is why your comparing Wilkinson witnHolgate. Two very different scenarios. We will and have had. Many loanees who wanted to play for us but are under contract elsewhere. wilkinson id no different and he is on a 4 yr deal.holgate has one year left so his signature is important to us. He has refused.

People just can't wait to slate the club.

Chill out. Be positive. Believe that LJ knows what he's doing.
