I've heard several people on radio sheffield saying that 'at least he didn't do anything as bad as ched evans (a statement which the presenters agreed with). Sorry but why exactly is one crime worse than the other? Rape is awful but so is violent crime and assault. On a general level why is rape worse than beating someone up? On a more specific level why is none violent sex with a woman who didn't say yes or no because she was too drunk to do so worse than GBH (which is more serious than ABH and is the most serious level of assault) by a person who had already committed ABH (more serious than common assault)? I know that people will say that the emotional pain and suffering is worse than the physical harm and further that the emotional suffering of anyone who is raped is worse than the emotional suffering of the victim of GBH but I personally feel that is a very unfair view as unless you've been the victim of both how can you possibly know that? I know somebody who was raped (none violent) and she says she was annoyed but not suffered no emotional problems at all, I know a victim of a random assault who is now a nervous wreck and a shadow of their former self. Likewise I know a rape victim who struggles with it greatly and an assault victim who was annoyed but didn't seem emotionally harmed at all. What I'm saying is that surely different people deal with different things in different ways so the widely held opinion that rape victims are so much more damaged than violent assault victims seems very odd to me and so that idea of one crime being abhorrent whilst the other is just 'bad' doesn't make sense to me
How can you call anyone naïve? Your on a one man crusade to save badgers on here, do you think posting your views on here will save even 1 badger? If you do then that is Naive
It's probably not as straight forward as you would think. I guess it depends on the level of assault. The law deems some assaults to be worse than others hence different charges. I'd say an assault deemed in the same serious crime bracket as rape could be equally as damaging.
Well, one crime is worse than another - that's why different crimes carry different sentences. But ultimately he has served his sentence and like anyone else then is allowed to make a living once released. There is the issue that if you see footballers as "role models" then would you want such a player at your club.
I just don't think you've thought it through. Many years ago, I got a bad beating by a couple of on leave squaddies. It would have constituted at least an ABH charge. But I wouldn't consider my personal experience as serious as rape.
