I noticed a thread earlier and a comment from Journo Tyke about cost not being a factor. A lot of rubbish is talked about "sticking with a club through thick and thin"..."real supporters" etc. at the end of the day if the entertainment is ptoportionate to the cost i.e. if it represents VALUE for money then people will go. That is subjective - each to his own as what he regards as good value and also what he can afford. I for one stopped attending during the fiasco with 'He who must not be named' and have seen and heard nothing that would tempt me back. Call me a fair weather supporter if you must but I have to say i used to go down to t'Well in the days of Winstanley, 'spud' Murphy Eric Brookes etc and although it was 3rd division football, it, to me, represented good value for 2 reasons. Firstly it was comparatively cheap -even given inflation- it was still affordable to youngsters and low waged people, and secondly, The aforementioned players may not always have had the greatest skill but you could guarantee rain or shine they gave 100% for the Barnsley shirt. I feel many people regardless of income are getting tired of overpaid prima donnas not giving 100%, high profile referees spoiling games which happens in all divisions increasingly it seems. I am even feeling less inclined to watch TV footie these days as the entertainment on offer seems to be consistently more hype but of a lower real entertainment value than used to be the case. Rant over!
