I have no problem at all with his interviews and it’s refreshing to have a manager/head coach who’s open and honest. This jibe he’s getting for calling players out, I don’t get. He’s clearly saying to us and the media what he’s already said to their faces. He’ll be doing this to spark a reaction and if they can’t take a bit of criticism or honesty, they they’re in the wrong job. He wears his heart on his sleeve and id like to think he’s as passionate about our club succeeding as the supporters are but he’s been dealt a short hand in the summers recruitment policy. There’s not enough depth in key areas and it’s proving with the inconsistency He needs time and at least another window to improve things
I think there are obvious comparisons to Hill. Different favoured words, obviously, but an undercurrent of trying to come across as brighter than they were. Use of double negatives and other poor word combinations, so he just sounds a bit... Lacking. Maybe he's more Flitcroft like in that respect but without any naff motivational speak. I don't dislike him. I don't especially like him either. I don't feel his interviews are especially entertaining or informational, and as others have said, the way he can treat the local media is pretty shoddy and uncalled for. I'm not calling for him to be sacked, given the squad he's been given, I don't think that solves anything. But he's not going to be in my top 20 Barnsley managers either.
It’s about motivation , formation , responding to players having a poor game , that’s down to the coaching staff . I’ve not seen a team that I’ve thought have better players than us , I’ve seen teams better organised and motivated . We’ve got coaches that we know in their playing time were top in the crossing , taking corners , free kicks , delivering the ball into areas that are dangerous for the opposition, all facets of the game that should be better this season . We’ve got a coach in Stead that was a top big striker , ran the line well held up the ball and scored goals at this level and above , Cosgrove towards the end of last season looked like he’d turned the corner and was half decent , he’s regressed . We should be comfortably top 6 . I hope Clarke turns things round but he and his coaching staff need to look at themselves instead of throwing the players under the bus in interviews every week
Just listened to Birmingham coach Chris Davies’s after match interview and he says we opened the scoring against the run of play……really , we were all over them for the first 15 minutes of second half.
I think we’d increase our points total by at least 10% if, when he decided to make substitutions, someone just stopped him.
Back the manager in January and keep him into next season. The board either think they picked the right guy (therefore back him and do what he says with the squad) or they think they ballsed up and need to sack him to save face, deflect blame from themselves and get someone better in. Constant managerial changes are contributing to recruitment problems though and Clarke, like him or not, has not had enough time with a weakened team so for me its keep him and back him.
I thought Phillips and Russell generally played well yesterday but Keillor-Dunn, I heard somebody say his name just after half time and I thought to myself, "is he playing then, not seen him".
Well my sons just told me we’ve created more chances from corners and dead ball situations than any other club in the division , so I’ll shut up now and catch up on Made in Chelsea and I’m a Celebrity !!! …..I can’t speyk
Clarke talks a good game, uses plenty of bull sh*t bingo, run through brick walls type of speak and if you notice it’s never his fault. It’s a pity his team choices and tactics he gets wrong almost every week can’t match his speaking not his fault though the owners employed a Poundland manager and this is what you get a lower league journeyman out of his depth being grateful for every wage packet he collects whilst we employ him when we are sleepwalking mid table over Christmas and into January they will inevitably sack him and the 28 coaching staff. Then the manager merry go round at jokewell will start all over again. Who will choose the players we desperately need in January ? will it be our genius head of recruitment again ? January will see anything they can raise funds for get banked whilst our head of recruitment will probably employ another three coaches and bring in another four midfielders from the stew and Guinness league in Ireland.
I'll have a go. The bombastic style of his interviews contrast with the timid, negative way he sets up his team and particularly the way he makes substutions late in the game where he often moves to having 4 centre backs on the pitch. Very Hill-like. Like Hill, his words and self-promotional style don't match the results on the pitch 'I am a winner' etc Like Hill, he appears to be somewhat enamoured of his own voice. I will agree with you and quite a few others that he sees the same game that i've been to, but quite often apportions blame to players where he was at fault. Take Wrexham for example, we are objectively better than them all over the pitch but the wing backs were clesrly instructed not to venture forward and then he did his stupid disrupt the back 3 thing that has led to us conceding pretty much every time he's done it. As Durkar says, some of our players have got worse. Phillips, Cosgrove and arguably Connell, plus we're clearly not getting the best out of DKD. What are they doing on the trainjng pitch? MDG was making foul throws for weeks and weeks without it being corrected (they finally seem to have sorted it) Outside of that, they make really basic mistakes - Connell clearly needed replacing at Wrexham ahead of conceding the winner and two weeks ago they tried to bring on an ineligible sub against Bristol Rovers which not one of them had noticed. Nwakali never gets a start - why? I understand the view from people that we can't keep chopping and changing. But its no good keeping someone if they're not up to it. We should have backed Duff and not sacked Collins for the same reason but those ships have sailed.
I've not minded Clarke all season. But I feel like he's started throwing the players under the bus a bit recently in his interviews. I'd like him to take a little bit more responsibility himself.
I I'm assuming he means Jackson Smith, but he didn't play in the FA Cup for Grimsby during his loan spell.
I could be wrong but I seem to remember reading on here that we tried to make too many subs or something like that
Craig. They tried to bring him on at half time of extra time but had already made the maximum available.
What happened? Did they realise their mistake or did the ref say "What do you think you're doing Simon Substituter, get him sat down and learn to count."
][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]"> The same run of play that created them one chance in the first half. He’s got to sell a narrative considering all the money they have spent. Piss myself laughing if they don’t go up and they didn’t look anything special at all. They only created 3 chances 2nd half and scored two of them so yeah don’t get this run of play nonsense.
Thats not quite true a few times he as said "i hold my hands up" or "I need to look at myself". Some managers are called out for not apportioning blame to anybody where Clarke appears to say it as he sees fit.
