Yesterday. All this talk about Colgan not coming off his line or Lucas is better because he came for a cross is totally missing the point of why we lost the game.
We lost the game because
a)our manager is tactically inept
b)we didnt have a tactical plan to deal with Huckerby.
c)our defenders notably Heckingbottom gave their winger so much space its untrue.
d)Paul Reid constantly ends up playing full back as either Hassell or Hecky go walkabout

Personally id be more concerned about those things than whether or not Colgan stays on his line. Seriously do any of you think he cost us a goal yesterday?
I would also have much rather seen Austin kept in the team and given a role of man marking Huckerby. Ozzy might not be the greatest footballer but he wouldnt have backed off like the rest of the defenders. He would have let Huckerby know he was there from the off. Unfortunately Davey knows better

Praise for Ferenczi and McCann. two players we could start building a team around in my opinion. As for the rest of Daveys signings either they cant get in the team or they dont improve the squad.

yep - total lack of organisation across the back

I agree McCann stood out and Togwell also had a good game, but we need to get Alan Hansen in as a defensive coach fast! :D

well we had

our slowest player marking the fastest most skilfull player on the pitch (not devaney) and for cover a left winger who was constantly going into the middle and providing no cover so it hardly came as a suprise when the first goal went in.

Agree with most of that

except the Colgan bit, seriously the guy must be a nightmare for his defenders as his communcation with them seems non existent he is virtually nailed to his line these days never mind his six yard box and his distribution is woeful.
Toatally agree about Hecky cant believe the space he gives the opposition (mainly because he goes missing from his position for vast chunks of play) and as for the managers tactics,we are still dragging every player back for corners giving the opposition the opportunity to push more players up and we still just lump the ball forward far too often for my liking.

What about this for a solution

Heckingbottom off
Kyle Reid on left wing
Howard moved into middle of midfield to create chances
Togwell man marking Huckerby (hence stopping any threat from Norwich)
In effect going 3-5-2

Or is this too complicated for Davey?

a) Disagree - Davey has shown he can get results, it's just that we don't like the way he does it. That does not make him tactically inept.

b) Disagree - We did have a plan against Huckerby (force him inside on his supposed weaker left foot) but we underestimated what he could do with his weaker foot

c) Agree - Hecky isn't strong enough, quick enough, aware enough, good enough

d) Agree - Noticed Reid constantly having to cover in much the same way as McCarthy did for Joyce & Chambers all those years ago.

Hassell was Ok, it was Hecky

Norwich had done their homework, all their attacks came down our left and Heckingbottom was always either AWOL or beaten for pace. We desperately need a quality left-back.

Nope

Just that he is on the list of holders at Wikipedia. It doesn't state year of qualification.

This does happen all the time wih other teams but Ried isnt Quick enough, strong enough or clever enough to cover either full back like Macca was!

RE: Hassell was Ok, it was Hecky.........................NO!!!

My opinion of the defence was;

Natty looked good
Reid didn't close players down quick enough, he stood off players, hence their first goal - not good enough
Hassel had a poor game especially his distribution - which was shocking - but still good enough
Hecky.........errrr, went walk about.......not good enough

Colgan - has this guy got an elastic band tied to his shirt with the other end tied to the back of the net
He seems that he can only get to the 6 yarder and then something pings him back onto his line
Not good enough

Not saying he is as good as Macca was, but could do without having to wipe Heck's arse all the time

It's too complicated full stop

Fundamentally, we were defending far too high up the pitch. It was team problem, not one of individual mistakes.

For Norwich's first goal, it was essentially a long pass (clever run from Huckerby) into ACRES of space. Amazing run and finish.

It was all over from that moment onwards - as our suicidal chasing of the game ought to have resulted in a real spanking. The same mistakes were made when we went behind in the Colchester game. Blind Panic both on the pitch and in the stands!

BTW, Norwich are CRAP away from home (no better than we are) - and Colchester are even worse. So, why the anxiety when the first goal went in?

I think the anxiety in the stands when we go a goal down

Is because we rarely get anything once we've gone behind.

Thats why I asked.

The FA are always putting info on its web site, and in its Insight web site as to who and who isn't taking the Pro Licence and it's the first I've heard anything about Hanson.
