    Anyone heard of this before.

Bought a sofa yesterday from cortonwood store

They wanted to charge me 70.00 for delivery but i have a van that i could collect myself.

Told me they were not allowed to do this due to health and safety regulations

Is this a complete load of B0llox or have people come up against this before

If you decide to do it and sign to say you are taking it and thereby absolve them of responsibility I don't see the problem.

Where is the delivery charge from.

Is it the shop to your house or the factory to the shop / your house

I can see why they wouldn't want you on their factory site - or their warehouse by the sea.

I've certainly been charged a delivery charge I couldn't avoid before for a car before from the factory - but not for a product sat in the shop

But in reality it's one of those "present one price and then when the wife's decided to buy put a load of extra's on to bump up the profits"

Buy one from some one else - and tell them why.

    1. They might change their minds for you for this purchase
    2. They might change their policy in future.

Did you not try telling them to cancel the order then and you'll go else where. Usually works. Especially if their desperate for a sale

I think I must be one of the few people to buy from them outside of a sale, because the missus went to look and the salesman was very cunning in getting a deposit and saying that if I wasn't happy he would refund it but great ploy to get me into the showroom. And then I'm there with the wife saying how much she likes it etc!

You have a cancellation period by law and if you change your mind in that period they have to refund your deposit so see what it says on the contract and use that as a lever for free delivery. I believe the profit margins on sofas etc are massive so it's worth a shout

Wasn't full price was it at DFS? Did you catch the 20-year sale?

    15% off deadline yesterday

Then a new offer today more than likely

The sofa was in their warehouse so that's probably the reason

Anyway we required urgently due to moving out in 6 weeks and a 6 week delivery time

    Very pushy down there

Spent over 2k and they were still pushing for us to a buy a carpet from them

    2 Things:

1). Its SCS at Cortonwood, not DFS (just being pedantic - I'm sure DFS also charge a significant amount for delivery).

2). I bought a 2 seater swivel sofa thing from them about a month ago and they carted it to the back door and helped me load it in the car. It was significantly reduced clearance stock though.

Well working within the trade I get to hear many horror stories with regards to these bigger companies, their interest free credit is one prime example, this is how they survive, my tip to anyone is try find something similar at a small independent, you will save yourself a fortune.

i'd personally tell them to **** off and I'll buy a sofa else where if they won't do free delivery, you have pretty much already be paying through the nose there

We got offered 10 months interest free and also made a point of telling me i could have 10k credit with them.

Explained we had the money now and they still pushed for us to get it on credit

If it wouldnt have been for the good price compared to other places we would have fecked them off
