Is there anyone on here who has been through an Ebay dispute? What happens? Are they fair? Do they tend to lean on the side of the buyer?

I've sold an item, which I know damn well works - I used it the day before posting it. The buyer claims it's faulty and is threatening to create dispute. If this happens, I'll get my red mark on 100+ Ebay account and cause me no end of grief.

The user has admitted to wanting it to record a programme from sky (it's a dvd player) so he can cancel his sky subscription. I know for a fact that encryption on a sky sport channel will stop this from happening. Having said that, I know that the FTA channels such as BBC1 will record. That might be beside the point. The point is, the item works.

Any thoughts on how I can handle it? I could refund him his money, but If I do that, I believe it's only fair that I should deduct from that refund Ebay fees, paypal fees and P&P. Or I could let it go to dispute and there is no way of knowing if I could lose.

    TIA

I've been through a few disputes, i've got 6000+ feedback. 99 times out of 100 they will side with the buyer, unless the buyer has tried it on a few times with sellers.

if i was you i'd actually ring ebay up and explain to them over the phone, or at least have a live online chat with a customer service rep just see what they say.

similar things have happened to me in the past and i've just refunded them to save hassle and to save me from getting negative feedback.

good luck your gunna need it

Cheers mate. I've just come off with a live chat with them. It was very positive to be honest, not something I was expecting (Well, I was expecting a link to a web page). I'm hoping that it will go in my favour as my score is 130+ and his is 11. His written communication is so bad, I could hardly understand some of the questions he was asking me, and the whole recording from sky thing makes me think he's realised that he can't do what he wanted to so could be trying a fast one. In addition to this, I've just noticed one of the discs he says he's tried is not compatible.

Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll keep you all updated on how it goes if yr interested.
