I get quite a lot of error reports in XP, but it's mainluy when trying to play AVI files. I don't know if it's a problem with Windows Media Player, or the files themselves. Is there another program I could run the AVI files through and bypass the errors? Or is there anything else I could do?

Cheers mate. Will try the DivX player first. The one you suggest does look good though.
