We were normally a mid-table Division Two club but the season of 89/90, not to mention 93/94 were the scariest i'd seen the other side of the Millenium. Anyone else recall thes two seasons? What was so memorable about 89/90 was when we beat Middlesbough to leave them with it all to do against the Geordies, plus we did the double over Leeds and they refused to release highlights of the 2-1 at Bellend Road the evening after - what we got was highlights of Leeds hitting the woodwork twice and a couple of near misses. Gerry Taggarts' celebrations at the end still stay in the memory - cripes!.... 18 years ago now! Now i feel bloody old. Way back in our first season in Division Three we flirted with relegation until the 7-0 defeat at Reading. After that our defence seemingly approved and we ended up mid-table, but to be honest, there was a feel about the place/team that we were too good to go down anyway.
Was it Brendan O'Connell that got one of the goals?... I remember after that Leeds game we were kept in a compound and were pelted with allsorts from outside! OOH GERRY GERRY with his bandage!!
great game, apart from the result i remember this lad asking every minuite or so how long left, in the end just had to say, look at the fooking scorebouard......and yes, we got the usual kept in whilst pelted with stones and rocks, with the coppers roughing up anyone who complained, seem to remember two late on subs changed the game
Brendan O'Connell and Owen Archdeacon were both brought on at 1-0 down, both scored and turned the game on it's head. Tactical masterstroke from Mad Mel ;-)
I was sat in the stand with Leeds fans Got a freebie somehow can't remember how but finished up sitting in the so-called "posh" seats. While we were 1-0 down I was talking to this Leeds fan 50+ behind me seemed like a decent bloke, discussing relative skills of both sets of players etc etc etc all very civilised. Then suddenly we were 2-1 up and the guy went ballistic. I had suddenly turned into a Barnsley W*****r and would never get out alive unless they equalised. He said all this with his eyes staring and rolling with his face 2mm from mine, dribbling and shaking with hatred and rage. We left early. **** scared, I admit it. Complete set of utter scum at that club. Liverpool Red you have made a terrible mistake.
Hee hee Still looking for those videos mate. Didn't know how easy it was to get branded a Leeds fan. Should have kept mi gob well shut. By the way, another snippet. Can't remember the year but we played Leeds at Oakwell and as far as I remember we won. The Leeds scum were throwing stones at the disabled stand which at that time was very intelligently postitioned right next to the away fans. Must have been terrible for those inside. Leeds for promotion? No thanks don't need those idiots at Oakwell.
RE: Hee hee That was 1984/85 my friend..... Very eventful day was that methinks! Certain pic of WF fronting police, other side of which were Leeds fans. Fireworks were apparently thrown in a skirmish outside the train station's main entrance. But please...... Leeds for ****'s sake, of all the teams to stick colours on your fecking nek? Ok! As young uns roundabout 10 years old etc with the draw of Clarke, McKenzie and so on.......... But! 2008, what's the bloke thinking about ffs!?
Don't know him But he sounds like a decent bloke. Why on earth post that on here? Sounds like the "It's not like it seems" or "I can explain everything" when sombody's missus catches them "at it". There isn't really a good excuse. Still you have to admire the guy for his honesty. Let's give him another chance. He's a red really.
RE: Don't know him Nah!............ In my personal opinion, he sported the colours of a hated rival. End of!!!!! He can **** off in my opinion!! Mind you - never met the bloke, so no love lost, etc. I really think he's a lovely person! Why did he do it? Like i said, any other tean bar our LOCAL RIVALS then there's no probs when it gets deep..... but Leeds for ****'s sake!? Feuck him!
Bit Harsh I reckon he's just cocked up we've all done it. Only thing is, why post it on here? Probably because someone else would have if he didn't. Good fun making him squirm though
RE: Bit Harsh **** him! Dirty Barsteward in my opinion. Like i said.... maybe if it was Carlisle etc.... NO! Sorry! I've sat in quite a few 'ends' without wearing the opposition's colours. So.............. why should LiverpoolRed go to a game as a neutral but find it amongst himself to waer the colours of one of our hated rivals? **** him!!!! That's what i think.......... absolute B*ll*cks! and a slight to all the poor Barstewards that got run/bashed up etc at a lot of shitlole places before Leeds were even deemed safe. For ****'s sake, seems like he wasn't under any threat anyhow, so why the Leeds wearing ****?????? (
OK I give up The whole story sounds very strange, and I agree he could have just gone to the game without wearing a scarf. I once went to watch Fulham v Liverpool, 2nd leg League cup years ago. Liverpool won the first leg 10-0. I just wanted to see what tactics Fulham would employ. Does that mean I have to log off? But yes, tend to agree, anywhere but Leeds. Leeds, FFS?
As I said sat with Carlisle fans and didn't want my head kicking in! Getting a bit personal now ... he's a lovely person! As you've said you've never met me ... christ I've read some garbage on here before but some of this takes the biscuit. Maybe I've got the intelligence to realise there's more to life than football and that it's a game.
Sorry to both of you Last thing I wanted to do was get involved in an argument with fellow reds fans. Wished I'd just acted like a guest now! It is only a game, I agree. Not worth falling out over. In fact we can all do what we like, go where we like and watch what we like. We don't have to justify ourselves to anyone else. And I agree we should not get personal. The game is all about opinions. All the best to both of you. Hope we can meet one day.
RE: Sorry to both of you No problem with you Stahl..... what you did is what every other football fan does - go to a neutral game. I've done absolutely loads, but i would never wear the colours of Leeds/ Sheff weds etc - end of! I've done Leeds/Sheff Weds games etc onthe neutral but never once felt implied to sport the ***** they do! I have no qualms with LiverpoolRed attending whatever game.......... sporting the colours of the cants is a different matter!
