FM08 question

Just installed the game and downloaded a patch so it would clear up any bugs (as someone mentioned about corners)

However - it has also updated the player database so, for example, Barnsley start the season with Macken.

Is there a way of applying the fixes without applying the player changes, as I don't want to start the season as the squads were then and not as they are now.

 

Don't think so pal, there might be some other patches available but I don't know of any. I'm playing a game as we speak-1st season mid February 20th in bloody league! Funny how some games can mirror real life! Michael Coulson and Brian Howard are brilliant on it.

 

Without checking ES I can't say for sure, but in the past I'm fairly certain they've released two patches, one with and one without updated databases.

I haven't applied the most recent one yet so I don't know, but check the FM sites thoroughly and I'm sure you'd find a way...

Pablo PIATTI - argentinian midfielder cost about 100k for estudienties. Scores loads if played behind front 2.

Branimir Kostadinov - 18 year old striker from hearts, cost me 85k, scored 47 goals in all comps in my first season for me, i am 6th in league with 3 games left.

 

Howard was crap on mine when i signed him for Forest. I think hes somewhere like Forest Green on loan at the min. Agree about Coulson though. I got him on a freebie & he's 2nd in the League 1 scorers chart with 22 behind Tobias Mikaelsson my other striker whos on 27

I've got Kostadinov for £75,000, Piatti's a bit out of my price range at £375,000 though.

What tactics do you use? (dunno)

I know in the past they did 2. Checked on forum and it looks like it isn't the case this time....someone suggested starting game with default database (selection when starting a game) but that then seems to put back to version 8.0.0 rather than 8.0.2

There is mention of a 8.0.1 but I can't find it.

in fact one guy even said this is the way it's always done and seemed surprised someone may want to start a season with the squads as they were.

I've started the season with updated database but it does my head in just seeing it mention Keegan as Newcastle manager etc! I'll have to grin and bear it I guess.....it'll all be different after a season anyway!
Still waiting to be offered a job though!

4 at the back diamond in midfield one midfielder in front of back 4 and one behind front 2 use as much width as possible, another midfielder to try is Alex from vasco just as good as piatti about 75k appeal work permit decision he'll get one then. Also a centre half called cristian sarghi romanian lad cost about 3ok he is top knotch.

 

When you start a new game in the bottom right of the first screen( the one where you can choose to start a new game or load an old one) click on preferences. On the preference screen from the options at the top left choose new game.This should bring up a pop up window with database options on it. Click on the scroll bar thingy and select default( It will probably be showing8.01 or 8.02 depending on the patch you have.) With luck this should give you the start of season squad but with all the bugs/ glitches sorted to the latest standards. Good luck.

On your advice I started as an ex-professional and still not got owt 2 weeks into the season!

Looks like I'll have to start again and pick a team.

I think that works.

As I have squads from start of season (well, from checking Barnsley), and it shows as version 8.0.2 for the game.

There's usually 2/3 lower league clubs at the start of the game without managers, you just have to take one of them or you've got a wait on your hands.

I've got English and Spanish leagues set up.

Just started with Harrogate Town in Blue Square North....transfer budget of £5k for the season!
