My family have served this country with all the patriotism, dignity and pride that most working families have done. Indeed my great grandfather paid the ultimate price on the battlefields of the Somme and my grandfather was killed in the second world war.my father fought in Korea and I myself were in the armed forces ready to defend my country. So can you imagine the hurt and and anger I felt when the witch of a prime minister called me and thousands like me who were protecting our jobs and communities the "Enemy Within" and almost broke the country to put the likes of me on the dole. I have nothing but contempt for the people of our town who mourn or are saddened by this witches passing that they can look around d our town and see the despair and hopelessness on much of the young men who are either out of work or working g for rich corperate companies for next to nothing, they disgust me. My memories of Barnsley before thatcher was a prosperous (not rich by any means) thriving friendly community where people knew Almost everyone that lived in the town. Where if you ventured into the bus station from and including 4 am it was bustling with people catching buses to their workplaces. You could get a bus from the station to any one of about 20 collieries, to Steele works. After the witches polices which still are prevalent today we have the Barnsley of today where they scoff at the unemployed, sick and disabled. May she burn in hell for eternitity
Re: I don't think I've ever read Excellent post Marlon, somethings cant heal with time. The hate I, and many more have had bottled up for all these years is one of those things. At least now I can celebrate the passing of this evil self centred witch. There are many people who cant understand these feelings, that is because they didnt suffer at the hands of this dictator.. I have friends who were at orgreave, who were playing cards when the Police charged at them on horse back. amazing how the thatcher controlled media showed my mates charging at them first in their flip flops, and shorts..this propaganda was to convince the country that the enemy within really was so bad... I will also never forget the taunting of the barstewards from the met with their white shirts and numbers missing from their uniforms.. waving their £5 and £10 notes at us...from behind their barrackade of shields and truncheons..taunting the enemy within to react so that the countries media could film our reaction...they say every dog has his day... today is mine.. I now have serenity..
Re: I don't think I've ever read I took the opportunity to watch The Boys From The Blackstuff only last week. First time I've watched it since it was screened 30 years ago and my god it still packs a punch. Told my kids to watch it if only to point out how bad things really were back in 82 under Thatchers reign. Maybe some of you younger posters could do worse than to give it a view. It really is powerful viewing.
Re: I don't think I've ever read Superb post. You sum things up far better than I could ever have done. I wouldn't usually speak ill of the dead but Thatcher was pure evil to the working class. The damage she did to our town will never be reversed. I don't think I'm going to watch many news bulletins or read many newspapers for the next week or so. I cannot stand all the plaudits that will be bestowed on the evil cow. The thought makes me sick to the pit of my stomach.
That Sir is one hell of a post & I doff my cap to you. We may be at different ends of the country but there are obviously huge similarities. That ******* woman destroyed my once proud community and I despise her for it. 84 pits within the 12 miles of the Rhondda that honed good, hard-working people who would give you the earth. Now it's gone - along with the hope and aspirations of a generation. I'd always said that I'd celebrate when she went and it was great having a pint and a sing-song with my mates earlier on. Jelly and Ice Cream when Thatcher dies...
Bluebird - I've spent a bit of time working in south Wales over the last couple of years. The Rhondda district is truely devastated now the pits have shut. At least round here we have some warehouse and distribution work associated with the the M1 and A1 transport links. I should imagine there's been mass emigration from the valleys since the pit closures. Ironic that they're now digging the mountain tops away to get at the coal. Still, both sets of fans should in general be united tonight at the witches death. A minutes silence at the start - I hope not; 90 minutes rejoicing should be the order of the day.
Excellent post. In my family we've gone from my dad being 'The Enemy Within' to me now being 'The Enemy of Promise'.
