    Devaney leaves Watford for Tykes

Devaney's stay at Watford was a short one
Watford winger Martin Devaney has joined Barnsley on a free transfer without playing a game for the Hornets.
Devaney, 25 signed for Watford from Cheltenham in July when his Whaddon Road contract expired.

The left-sided player who scored 43 times in 226 games for Cheltengam has signed a two-year deal with the Tykes.

Boss Adrian Boothroyd told Watford's website:"Martin was left as fourth choice for a place, I always look to be open with my players."

    Boothroyd reflects on Devany Switch

    http://www.watfordfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10400~703652,00.html

MIDFIELDER Martin Devany has today moved to Barnsley on a free transfer.
Commenting on the move Manager Adrian Boothroyd said: "Martin came here as a wide player - I brought him in because, at the time, I was unsure of Paul Devlin's long-term fitness and Anthony McNamee and Ashley Young's ability to consistently feature in the Championship.

However, Paul's come back to fitness and Ashley and Anthony have both impressed me with their abilities."This left Martin as fourth choice for a place in the team. I always look to be straightforward, honest and open with my players and so I informed Martin that Barnsley were interested in him and that he was free t move if he wished.

Martin has moved to Oakwell today and I, along with the rest of my staff, wish him well for the future. I'd like to think his time at Vicarage Road has not been wasted."

Goal every five games, not too bad for a Winger, hope he can continue that at Oakwell.

Saw quite a bit of Devaney at Cheltenham

Judgement reserved, give him a chance kind of thing but not sure if he will be any better than Brian Howard. Devaney can play in more than one position though. All I can think of is "Think Devaney, Think Julian Broddle!" Might give some a clue about him :)

Or as the commentator in our 5-2 win at West ham back in the day called him " Julian Brodd-Ell"

    He's right footed

which makes me think he may start on the left, but when Howard is fit, he may be an alternative to Shuker. He's also played up front, and with Nardiello's fitness record, we certainly could do with the cover.

As I recall that commentator never pronounced his name the same way twice in the entire match!!
