Bout the same as me mate when I was younger. Well done!
Doing A-levels next? What you taking?

Yes mate, going to Barnsley college doing Maths, English Language, Economics and Geography. I got A's in Maths English and Science and RE
RE: Pretend qualifications. It is soul destroying to see average kids coming out with 9 or 10 so called 'passes'. I've seen at first hand how these are achieved with my step kids. At O' Level you had a nerve wracking one-off exam; a proper exam under properly supervised exam conditions. You stood or fell by what happened in that exam room on that one day. Now you can have half your mark before you walk in, helped by unsupervised course work, done at home with any amount of help from family or the internet (my step daughter got a C in French the same as me, but I did several pieces of her course work for her). I was also shocked when she told me that she would get assignments back after marking and have the opportunity to improve them!
yes but When I did O levels you did about 6 or 7. Now the poor kids take anything upto 15 or 16 GCSEs. Thats a lot of exams and assessed work. the pressure is never off.
RE: yes but I agree, they do more but, alas, the standard is not the same. And don't get me started on coursework. They also have umpteen opportunities to do them. My youngest has just passed the 6 she took this year (a year early) with grades A-C. She will now do others next year & try to improve results in some by re-taking them - it all then looks good on the schools results tables as their best marks count. She sat and passed her maths GCE last year - 2 years early - and bettered it this time.
I am not disagreeing but its not the kids fault. At this time of year they cannot win. Poor buggers work like mad on loads of subjects and then everyone says - they are so easy they are not proper exams. So what should the kids do, just skip through to A levels or degrees? Not sure how we break out of this mad cycle.
Bluebird why do I always see you on this board man, **** off back over the bridge man you deluded prat. England = Taff free zone
Good title for you that, GCSE's - google it & you'll find out what they are. You may want to look up "deluded" in the dictionary as well - and you could also try "xenophobia". May not be in the jive-talking version though, unfortunately. You learn something every day, eh
RE: I am not disagreeing Yes, know what you mean tbh, it's a difficult one. And I must say that when you look through the topic areas and sheer volume of work, it is considerable.
In my opinion Everyone who complains about how easy GCSEs and A-Levels are should be forced to take them. That would soon shut up the 98% who haven't a clue what they're talking about. When I took A-Levels in 1993 (as usual, it was claimed they were easy that year) our Biology teacher dug out some old A-Level papers from the 70s and 80s for us to have a look at. They were a piece of piss. It was just remembering facts. You didn't have to apply what you'd learnt in any way. A parrot could have passed them.
Not sure about everyone else, but as far as I'm concerned, Bluebird is very welcome on here. Just how opposition fans should be!
