Football's appeal relies greatly on local rivalry, banter, worshiping certain players, hating certain players/teams etc etc. It helps create football's passion and importance to many many people up and down the country. Don't get me wrong, I wish Howard no physical harm and wouldn't do so to any player, whatever the circumstances were of him leaving. But to wish him good luck and wax lyrically about his past achievements - under the circumstances he left - sounds gut wrenchingly sycophantic if you don't mind me saying.
