Lee Johnson looking over his shoulder during all his interviews. It's as if he's looking to see who's listening
I think it's unique to Reds managers. They're keeping an eye out for someone taking their name plate down off the manager's door.
They're invisible elves, watch any interview with Tony Adams, they tend to scuttle around on the floor ...but Tony could see them, obviously Lee can too.
I like how he is quite open about tactics in his interviews. Non of it is rocket science, but gives us lot an insight into what he is trying to do. Guess the old school managers are worried about other teams picking up ideas of how to play against them, but these days pretty sure any manager worth his salt will already know all that kind of stuff.
Agreed, I like it when managers give an insight into what's been done on the training ground and what the tactics are. I'm not sure the old school managers are disinclined to give this information due to giving secrets away though. More likely, when you've been on a bad run if you continue to discuss the things you've tweaked and tactics you've worked on, the fans have an easy response of 'well it's not working'. The more experienced managers know that they're held to account for everything they do by the fans and the board which is probably why the temptation to blame players, referees, bad luck etc comes into play in post match interviews. I think one of the big red herrings with regards to football management is with the condition of the players. Quite often you'll get a new manager take over moaning about how unfit the players are and how his new regime will improve that. In modern day football reality, they're all in pretty good condition playing twice a week and any improvement on that front is negligible. More likely, the players are just putting in more of a shift for the new manager or the better you play, the fitter you tend to look. You're right though, I suspect Danny worked on 'pressing drills' and 'dynamic areas' in pretty much the same way, he just didn't talk about it. Unless they were all playing head tennis and eating bacon butties all day. Who knows? Ask Red Rain.
Agree with all that. On the flip side being open in interviews could help him when we do go through a bad spell. If's hes been talking for the last couple of months about pressing in certain areas and then all of a sudden the players stop doing it the fans can't really knock the manager and will have to blame the players for either not following instructions or being lazy. 100% record at the moment so he can say whatever he wants for me!
Can't say I've noticed on this one https://audioboom.com/boos/2956273-...=retweet&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
