Another good but tiring day today. Mum's had a letter from Chelsea FC they can't help with a donation/raffle prize and then a phone call from Grimsby Town FC saying that they can only afford to send a signed football would that be ok? Which is the bigger club? In my opinion it's Grimsby because they are prepared to help others. (angel)
Good on Grimsby Laura. It's the thought and the gesture that counts. grimsby still have a heart and contact with the human race, whereas we all know that Chelsea... er......doesn't appear to.
According to mum the gentleman from Grimsby was very close to tears as he said he had children and it was bad enough when they just had "normal" illnesses to cope with. He was very apologetic that because the FC hasn't got much money that they couldn't do much. Mum has assured him that he and they have done more than enough far more than most as most of the Premiership teams haven't even replied and she contacted them almost a month ago.
Only at very local level (our village) Mum is going to have a word with the Chronicle and she's asked for some information to be put in the Dodworth Directory (a monthly book on things in the village) to tie up with the advert from Gilroyd Club about the evening
You'd think they have a few £ to donate VERY big shame on them. Laura, I was always taught if you weren't satisfied with the first answer you got then go higher i.e. Mr Abramovich.
Some of Dad's work friends have organised a Fund Raising Evening on November 5th at Gilroyd Club for CFSN Cystinosis Family Support Network They wanted to know what they could do to help. Some of them play in a 60's Tribute Band and asked about playing a gig. My Godfather, Mick Holt (who also works with Dad) thought it would be a good idea and seeing as he is the Secretary of Gilroyd Club put it to the Committee and then it's taken off from there. We were told that there was going to be a Charity Fund Raising Evening on Saturday 5th November in aid of Cystinosis Uk - now CFSN Cystinosis Family Support Network as we now have full Charity Status (cost £1600 to apply for it). There will be a compere, 3 solo singers - 2 female and 1 male (we've heard 1 of the ladies and she is too good for the club circuit and only 18) a Comedian and then the 60's Tribute Band. Tickets are on sale from Gilroyd Club £2.50 (01226) 206800. Mum has sent out about 100 letters/e.mails to companies and shops and football clubs. We have had more no's than yes's. Chelsea, Portsmouth, Newcastle,Rotherham (we're not local), can't help. Bolton and Birmingham can't help but we can buy from the shop at a discount. Barnsley, Grimsby, Doncaster, Sheffield United and Wednesday and Everton have said yes and sent things. Most big companies eg. Britvic/Pepsi can't help as they support the major charities. (angel)
I might just send him a letter Mum has done things like that if they have said they can't help she sends them another letter asking if they would keep us in mind for future reference because...... and sends more information about cystinosis. She has changed a few minds this way .ff
You should do As I said, if you're not happy with the first answer then go higher until you get right to the top of the chain. You should be firm, assertive, but polite. I'm sure Mr Abramovich would be more than happy to donate some money or something towards the cause.
i think your main problem is that it is being held at gilroyd club. companies will hear that and assume its some small thing. not that it is but i can imagine thats how they think. you ring chelsea up and they're like 'who? gilroyd working mens club in south yorkshire?'. get barnsley to give you the executive suite free for a night and you'd get more offers. peoplea re stupid
RE: Some of Dad's work friends I could ask Paul whos the face of Barnsley to come along and draw the raffle for you if that would be any help.
theres a guy comes on here from barnsley eye too Post and ask for him... i cant remember his name though - but if you get a barnsley eye mag his name is in there. Like i said though - he does post on here!
Thanks for that I'll hunt out a copy. Rob Knowles has kindly asked for info to put in the Barnsley V Doncaster programme on our behalf.
