Anyone had one one before to see if there functioning ok? A rung the doctors months ago to ask if I could have a MOT and she said come back when your 40!!! Cheers....... I’ve seen you can buy online test kits where you take a sample of blood from your finger and it tells you quite a bit about how your functioning, a do a fair bit of fitness so just keen to know what’s what really
Not sure but I think you can do it through a Chemists , might be a bit more appealing than someone online .
Yes, my sister paid for a years worth of tests for me as a Christmas present with a company called Thriva. It worked OK. The actual process of taking the blood was a bit of a faff first time but I got used to it. They provide a little contraption that pricks your finger and you have to drip it into a small test tube but the issue is getting enough of it out before it clots. I ended up with 2 or 3 separate pin pricks all over my finger before I got enough out. But actually, you don't need that much - a few largish droplets fills it. They tell you to avoid sending it over the weekend to try to avoid it spoiling before they can test it so you need to try and time it early in the week so you can do the test and get it straight in the post. There are different levels of test you can pay for depending on what you want them to test but the results they provide are very comprehensive. After my free year was up I didn't carry it on but not quite sure why. It would have been worthwhile and I might start it again at some point.
Medically I can’t see how a pin ***** test gives anything like the amount of info the doc gets from a set of fasting blood tests. Realistically @judith charmers what is the problem you’re trying to solve here? In your own words, you keep fit and you’re under 40. A full set of blood tests for a bloke over 40 is looking for signs of cancer, cholesterol, diabetes etc. none of which you’re at risk of statistically. There’s a reason the NHS prioritises cure for the young, but then prevention later for people at risk. You’re not a victim here; if you’ve got symptoms you’re concerned about, go see a doctor. But the medical profession doesn’t exist to pander to your curiosities. Sorry if that sounds blunt; but the NHS is on its arse and you complaining you can’t get some attention when there’s a 99.9% chance of nowt wrong with you was a trigger.
I opened this thread thinking this was about a new marketing scheme by the club. Buy a home kit, get a free matching blood test....
I wouldn't bother with a kit where you only need 1 drop of blood. That isn't enough to tell you much. The most I have had taken is 3 phals at the Biobank project I'm a member of.
