I see what you're saying, but everything Mr Howard said in the summer seemed to indicate he wanted out, and his performances this season seemed to have backed this up somewhat.

I'm sure Brian was keeping his options open. Remember Everton and the likes were sniffing round at one point so he would have been silly not to. In my honest opinion i think that if BFC accepted he was going to leave without even trying to get him to stay.
See I'm not convinced any premiership team were ever seriously interested in signing him. I think the paper talk went to his head though and affected his performances.
Maybe the club thought unless they were willing to pay him more than they thought he was worth then there was no chance of him staying?
I don't know, but I can't see that the club would get away with lying in the official statement. IF they say Howard's representatives rejected any talks of a contract, then I'm inclined to believe that

to be honest, can you see howard, as good as he's been for barnsley getting into the everton starting XI on a regualr basis?
No maybe not straight away. However i think with better players around him i think he will blosom and raise his game. And there definately was interest from premier league clubs.
Maverick10 is just **** stirring trying to cause trouble he is not a Barnsley supporter and no more a friend/relative of Brian than I am. Or he is Brian!
Im DEFINATELY not a Barnsley fan. I followed them while Brian was here so i wanted them to do well. I actually grew to lke the club and fans until this fiasco happened and i have witnessed first hand the treatment he has gotten. Embarassing
