Woods is an exciting, attacking and agile midfielder who can change the pace of the play in a split second, as the Rovers defence found out to their detriment but shall now be using his speed teamed up with the new striker James Hayter to form a formidable duo. Despite this his obvious skills had caught the eye of Premiership Sunderland who acquired him 'on a free' in 2005.</p> The then 19-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Elland Road in favour of completing a switch to Wearside, and the Scottish ace became Mick McCarthy's first recruit as he unsuccessfully bid to keep the Black Cats in the Premiership.
