Doncaster Rovers have pulled off the biggest of coups after influential Scottish Under 21 midfielder Martin Woods agreed to signon a four year contract subject to his medical today (Tuesday).Martin was in huge demand from the likes of Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Scnuthorpe United but Rovers have prevailed in snatching this gifted player from under their noses which will only add to the future success of the club! Rotherham's Player of the Season Martinwill joinon a free transfer after evoking a clause in his contract allowing him to move free if the Millers were relegated.

The Championshipsides were the favourites to get Woods but Chairman John Ryan sold the ambition and prosperity of this club to the player, who scored a great goal against Rovers for Rotherham here at the Keepmoat in January. Woods is an exciting, attacking and agile midfielder who can change the pace of the play in a split second, as the Rovers defence found out to their detriment but shall now be using his speed teamed up with the new striker James Hayter to form a formidable duo. Rovers are continuing their campaign to enhance the squad to the level that will challenge for automatic promotion and to see their triumph sky rocket, so let the good times kick off!

John Ryan said "This was a really great coup for us. I'm absolutely delighted that Martin is joining us and if you think back to the game here he scored a fantastic goal against us which would be amongst the best this season. We have worked hard to get him here and succeeded against the odds to convince him here was where his future lay"

Facts and figures on 21 year old Martin include his fledgling career at Leeds United beginning 2003, as a trainee, making just one sub appearance before going on loan to Hartlepool United in 2004. He made six appearances for the 'Monkeyhangers' before returning back to Elland Road, but didn't get his lucky break there to be included in the first team. Despite this his obvious skills had caught the eye of Premiership Sunderland who acquired him 'on a free' in 2005.

The then 19-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Elland Road in favour of completing a switch to Wearside, and the Scottish ace became Mick McCarthy's first recruit as he unsuccessfully bid to keep the Black Cats in the Premiership. He was to make seven Premiership appearances for the Wearside club but when the Mackams got relegated back to the Championship and Mick McCarthy left, new manager Roy Keane released him.

In 2006 Alan Knill stepped in and gave Woods a contract at Rotherham, this is where he was really given the opportunity to make a name for himself. In a side that started ten points down after going into administration he was able to make a huge difference as they fought back to nearly pull off the escape of the season. Martin was to feature in over forty games for the Millers helped them for a time to escape the relegation places and scored four goals. After the Millers were relegated to League Two, a host of clubs came knocking at his door but after talking to them all it was Rovers who have bagged this promising young star and given him the dream of joining them in their continued success story.
