I think we'd be more than happy with 15 goals. 20 goal per season strikers are a lot less common than fans demanding them realise. I've been watching Barnsley for 38 years and, unless I'm mistaken, the last Reds striker to score 20 league goals was in my very first season, 1976-77. Ronnie Glavin got 20 from midfield in the early 80s, but I don't think anybody has scored 20 league goals in a season for us for over 30 years. But, you're right, your place in the food chain is slightly lower than ours, so if he wants to come to us there's little you can do about it. And if he scores 20 goals for us next season we won't be able to do anything about it if Huddersfield or Bolton or Wednesday, etc, come sniffing. Way of the (football) world nowadays.
Johnson wants a player that can cut in from the right and one with pace and power to get in behind. I'm assuming he's wanting Henderson as the former then. Great that he's a number 9 option too if we get him.
He's got into double figures most seasons, gets 10 this season with a few assists and I'd class that as a successful season for him
He's not slow, but nor is he a speed merchant either. File under "clever player". Much better cutting in from the left too. Answering Redstar's prospects question: we'll be fine as long as Hill stays. I'm realistic enough to know that the club is reliant on him. Maybe more than it should be.
Trust me its far from a huge gamble. He's a class player who scored goals all his career whether playing on his own or as a 2nd striker. Keith Hill recently said he's the BEST signing he's ever made and considering some of the fantastic players he's developed down the years that is some compliment.
68 goals in 351 games. Reasonable, but making the point that he's scored goals all his career is a bit misleading. He's had by far his best spell in his career in last few seasons for Dale. 2001–2007 Norwich City 68 (6) 2007→*Rotherham United*(loan) 18 (1) 2007–2008 Northampton Town 26 (0) 2009 Luton Town 18 (1) 2009 Ankaragücü 2 (0) 2010–2013 Colchester United 118 (24) 2013–Rochdale 101 (36)
About 7 penalties and about 10 tap ins, of the 20 he scored in L1 last season. Goal wise. But it's his talent, movement, flair that I'd be attracted by. Also a grafter. The goals are a bonus if he did join us, as there's no way he'd be playing striker ahead of Winnall who's much the better player, in that role, in my opinion. But if we're playing 4-3-3 or some variation of it, Winnall central with Henderson left and Wilkinson right would be quite interesting, especially with Scowen, Pearson, Hourihane, Williams and Rothwell as midfield options. Shaping up a little better if we did sign him, but I'd prefer JOS and McLeod. All three would be like Xmas for me. Wouldn't it be nice if they threw Jamie Allen in too? Or we could wait a few months. Perfect replacement for Pearson in January.
Surely the whole Hill debate is old now. Fair enough he divided opinion massively when he was with us but I think its a bit disrespectful to speak of Rochdale like some fans on here do. Regardless of where a player comes from he should be given a clean slate us. If were able to bring Henderson in then I'm sure he would add something we are missing and that's guile and creativity. Like 442 has said he can operate in a number of positions, which would be invaluable to us.
Quite sad that players we get linked with, that have any form of Rochdale history, are instantly knocked. Some folk need to move on.
Who ever we sign half on here will moan slag slate and write em off... Has good record and can play wide, has done most of his career from what i gather... IMHO he is as good if not a better option than Mcleod... Both similar age, experienced and proven goalscorers at this level
Sorry I meant cut in from the left. We have Wilkinson who apparently loves to cut I'm from the right. Sounds an ideal player for us. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
