I know that its international weekend where you can find plenty of footie on the telly at different points, But does anybody else think that along with the debacle of the online England match that its completely ****? Cos I do. Not real footie that really matters. I always watch all of Englands matches on the box and have suffered over the years, not with loosing in semis/on pens, cos most the time we had played quite admirably, but I struggle with the substitutions and the funny team selections, and games being made a farce. I certanly dont knock anyone who doesnt take any interest in the england games anymore, because other than the odd couple of matches, they are mostly rubbish, I will still watch them but this online thing may have just pushed me a bit too far. Selling rights to pay television is a short sighted policy. I'm a cricket fan today because I could run home from school and tune into Geoff Boycott as he crawled into double figures after 2 1/2 sessions of play. They are going to lose half a generation of supporters by not making a sport freely available on terrestrial.
Exactly Sport is killing itself slowly. </p> Is there a British version of this (much advertised here in Oz) which will allow you to petition the government over its protected sporting events list? </p>
Don't give a stuff about cricket anymore I always used to watch the test matches when they were on the BBC and then Channel 4. They then moved to Sky, so I could no longer watch them and I lost interest. I don't think I'm alone in that. Compare the celebrations of 2005 when we won The Ashes and they were on Channel 4 to those in 2009 when they were on Sky. In 2005 it was the story of the summer with victory parades through the streets of London, while in 2009 it hardly even registered. I'm sure there are other factors in this, but the fact that the majority of the country can no longer see the games is a major one. They took the quick buck but I'm sure it will hurt them in the long run.
Well the cricket is a fine example of a sport in its zenith when it was live on the telly for 5 days straight. The powers that be are professing that internet streaming is the future and instead of people subscribing to sky, you will pay, per view for the football online. It will kill the game cos people who would watch all games on their sky subscription, wont be bothered about the lesser games if they have to be paid for. The point being you dont know which games are going to be classics before they start. I also think that at the moment broadband isnt good enough quality, and the streaming can be jerky.
