Got an iPod before I got an iMac, so all the music files were on my laptop (PC) can I transfer from iPod to iMac? Everytime I plug it in to the iMac it just asks if I want to change libraries and deletes all existing music from the iPod. It's annoying me now as I can't be arsed to individually copy all the albums onto the iMac from the CD's. Any help appreciated, except from AIRy who'll tell me to go out and buy 'Creative' or something gay.
As soon as you connect to a pc or mac it formats the ipod to that platform. So if you change platforms it will ask to reformat the drive on the ipod. So I think the only solution is to transfer your mp3's from the PC (via an external drive) on to the mac. Then connect your ipod to the mac, it will reformat, delete songs then sync with your new library. You shouldn't need to reimport your songs from CD. You can simply transfer the mp3's from PC to mac.
oh okay, so I definitely can't use the iPod to transfer back. Do I need to buy a USB memory stick thing or will a cable do the job. I've no idea if a Mac can see the files on the PC that's all. Thanks in advance.
Just thinking any external drive may reformat to that platform as soon as you connect, so usb pen would essentially be the same as your ipod. How many songs are you talking? If there's loads I would look at a crossover cable (ethernet cable that connects 2 machines without the need for a hub) but that requires creating a bit of a network. But if you are keeping both machines that may be the best bet in the long run. If you don't have many songs it may be simpler to import the cd's again.

I'll buy a pen thingy. btw it's 119 songs, to me that's immense! To my nephew that's a source of great amusement. I once owned a sony walkman that used tapes ffs. Ace for breakdancing in the park.
no worries would be just as quick, and easier, to import them again. 119 songs is 10 cd's at most shouldn't take long. BTW your nephew is right...119 is pityful
to be fair, it would be much more, but the iPod did that freezing thing and wouldn't do anything and stayed in the drawer for a year. I suddenly thought maybe if I connect it to the iMac something magical will happen (I'm technical like that) and it worked. hey ho. Now, the drive in the iMac won't accept 12" vinyls will it?
