Could he be using our interest in him to highlight to the press down here what a good job he's doing up in the Highlands. He leads us on a bit then respectfully declines, goes back to Scotland and waits till someone else he prefers comes knocking. God forbid. Deep down, I think most of us expect him to knock us back.
