Here's Israeli newspaper Haaretz on the killing, via Guardian report. 60% of Gaza civilian dwellings are destroyed. Where do 1.5 million people go home to?
You're totally misunderstanding where I'm coming from. I don't know who's right and who's wrong in this conflict. I don't think I even care. What I'm looking at is how is a ceasefire achieved? Can Israel be persuaded to lay down it's arms? (Cause that's what it amounts to). If not, can they be forced to do so? The answer to the first question is no. Hamas are still firing rockets at them and still hold civilian hostages against the rules of war, including women and children. If Israel could be persuaded to lay down their arms, will Hamas cease their activities? Of course not. The answer to the second question (enforcement of ceasefire) is also no. America does not have the resources to police that one against the backdrop of the other geopolitical situations in the world at present. And any suppression of both sides' hostilities would likely further raise tensions in the middle east, with Russia and China waiting in the wings to add to the destabilization. So America's voice is not very powerful, realistically, in this situation. Sunak's is of no effect. The leader of the opposition's voice is of no consequence whatsoever. So better for a leader of the opposition who hopes to assume power within 12 months to not take a stance against our allies, or one which would hand ammunition to the Tories and their media paymasters. The flak from the Corbynistas is rather easier to deal with.
