Reyt, being the kn0b that I am I managed to get some sort of virus on my laptop that's basically wiped the lot. Every bit of my documents has gone, some of my programmes have gone as well but I've redownloaded em. Thing is I'm at uni so quite a bit's gone that I could do with, it's not life and death but I'm a bit p'ssed off with myself. Got some shitty add on for Chrome virus on it, so I uninstalled the thing, then it said restart the system to complete the removal so I did then it reset the thing! Anyone got any ideas if it's possible to restore all my files, and how to go about doing it if it is at all possible? I'm on Windows 8 if that makes any difference. Cheers.
I have a program somewhere on my lapop that i have used to recover deleted videos and stuff. ill have a look If i can find what it is. but its better if you can have the problem harddrive has an external one. although if you have already re installed the software then you could have over written anything that has been deleted. also, are you sure they have been deleted, there are some viruses that hide everything and make it look like stuff has been deleted but when you get rid of the virus they appear again
First thing first - make sure you have killed the Virus, before attempting any data recovery. Otherwise you could do more harm than good. There's a whole raft of data recovery utilities - some better than others. Might just be a case of trying a few out. Recuva is highly rated. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.htm Oh..did I mention...PCs and Windows are w.ank. Next time, buy a Mac
sent you a program called easeus data recovery pro. One of best on market and has been brilliant for me in the past after I formatted hdd and then thought ****, i forgot about something http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizardpro/
Its too late now, but keep a copy of all your files off your laptop. It used to be a case of using floppy disks or a USB memory stick, but you can just stick your important stuff on something like DropBox now and access it from anywhere in the world...
The virus may have not wiped the files but just hidden them. Some viruses can do that. You can try a little free program that checks for hidden files that shoudnt be hidden and makes them visible again. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/unhide/ Click on the link that says Download Now @ Bleeping Computer and save it, then run it.
Your best bet is to just take it into the nearest police station and say 'Tommy Tyke gave me this, he said it had some interesting pictures on it'. They'll recover everything on the hard drive before you can say pseudo.
honestly, I can't understand why more people don't use Linux (either Ubuntu, Kubuntu or Xubuntu) so, so many advantages to it. I've just recently switched all my computers over to Ubuntu, and I love it. No viruses, no need to defrag, no bloated OS, very restricted admin permissions, so even if a virus was created in the future, it couldn't do anything too damaging. This just to name a few things I love about it. The UI looks a lot nicer, too
Ubuntu is very useful for a) geeks and b) people who have an OS that's ****** beyond repair. Definitely has its merits, but far from fit for mass market....I think Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree in some respects, however it has got a lot better over the last few years, no more pi$$ing about in terminal without a GUI like Linux of the past
You could say that about OSX to be honest, only a few years ago you had barely any choice when it came to software, it's got slightly better in the last couple of years. Sent from my Sandwich Toaster using Tapatalk
Personally not found anything that Mac doesn't have software for. In my experience, OSX blows Windows out the water Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It was just the little freeware apps for various things that I found lacking on Mac, mine was essentially just a platform for running Adobe Creative Suite. Then I started to do this work on a PC as the processing power available is much greater and photoshop is much faster. Sent from my Sandwich Toaster using Tapatalk
