It's a PR Shambles!

    Consider the evidence.....

    1. In the summer it was announced Shuker's signing ....and then followed by we've withdrawn the contract offer - who's doing?

    2. I'm not going to go over it all again but the "we want to offer Andy a new contract, err no we're sacking him" debacle.

    3. The sale of McIndoe and not releasing it, or even hinting at it until 7pm. Very, very strange isn't it that everything else was well publicised but this received no coverage. And then, clearly after realising the extent of the wrath amongst fans belatedly a statement appears on the official site this afternoon. GORDON - IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE LAST NIGHT OR CERTAINLY FIRST THING THIS MORNING! HAVE YOU ONLY JUST REALISED THAT PEOPLE FEEL CHEATED AND UPSET!!!!!

    4. If I'm right (and I may not be here) I think the official line initially was it was an offer too good to refuse. Only now do we learn that we've made a small profit! I knew it - Wolves are skint! So the cr*p about we've made a large amount of money from him is nonsense! OK - when they came in for him his clause stated he had to be allowed to go but what does this say about the cpntract negotiation in the first place? We allowed him top hold all the cards - poor, poor management in my view but actually my real point is that yet again it's lousy PR, offer too good to refuse my arse!

    5. And now the "appointing an assistant manager nonsense.

My initial view was that things have been intentionally 'spun' and I don't like feeling that I've been taken for a fool. However I accept what people say that GS is a decent man with nothing but good intentions for Barnsley FC - in which case I can come to only one conclusion ........incompetence. Incompetence because no-one involved has the common sense to really put themselves in a supports shoes and understand how they might feel about things.

It really is a PR shambles and I suggest that a future appointment should be a supporter with communication skills - someone whop can think from a supporters perspective, not the clubs.

I'll do it - anyone else???????

    What difference does it make?

It's points we need, not PR - they could hire Max Clifford to do the PR, it wouldn't make one iota of difference. "Statements from the board", press conferences, bells & whistles, and all that ballax won't keep us in this league - results on the pitch will.

    Anorak.......of course we need PR

People want to know whats going on at the club
If they don't get the right info they jump to the wrong conclusions e.g. McIndoe sale
The more news we get the better
Football is a sort of show business, Barnsley Football Club need to understand this
I don't want to know which car Leon Knight drives but when appointments are being made for the assistant managers post, I and others want to know who it is, and what they have to offer and why have they have been appointed
I don't know why we don't get news like this but something is wrong at the club

Do you think Shep is playing a silly game here with us ???

Are you playing "stick the tail on the donkey" with your posts?

Cos your fecking miles out every time.

Maybe you have an issue with your middle ear that's affecting your balance?

I wasn't even talking about the meaning.

    Just his rampant Dillinger Palsy.

He even put "Anorak" in the subject bar, then randomly posted anywhere.

His posts are free radicals, or summat.

    Definitely not true....

Whilst I agree that we feel good going home on a setdi evening if we've got 3 points, it's about much more than that.

For me I want to feel important to the club and that they value me enough to be up front and honest and tell me what's going on. If I feel they're not doing this - and I'd do - my relationship with the club is damaged and I feel less emotionally committed to the club. It's almost like you're lover is keeping things from you and your relationship with her (or him) is then not quite as close.

And if supporters are less emotionally connected then they're less likely to go to the game, less likely to spend money in the club shop etc etc. Income then starts to fall etc etc.

Maybe PR isn't the right word because of its associations with 'spin' but make no mistake the club/sipporter relationship is critical ......and the club ain't getting it right at the moment.

I hope it changes - and quick!

Club hasn't had that bit right in years.

I wonder if they've thought that could be the reason why.

attendances are quite as high as they thought?

It's so easy to p*ss people off and damage the relationship. It's not complicated to get it right but it can be hard - and I agree they've been poor at it for years.

Even more reason to finally sort it out.

Since the farce that was administration

fans have been low down in the priorities of the club in its various guises in my opinion.

Agreed, which is strange given that each group that's subsequently been involved has talked about doing it for the town, the supporters etc etc.

I am just worried that we may be heading towards the Doug Ellis/Aston Villa scenario, the Chairman has the last say even if its a personel thing and has nothing to do with the best interests of the club. Power can do weird things to people, look at Hitler!!!!!!!!!!!

Mmm maybe. I agree that sometimes it can mean you justy stop thinking in the same way.

My guess though is that it's unintentional. Cr*p but unintentional.

Didn't the "offer too good to turn down" quote come from McIndoe though

Agreed that the timing of the news was poor, call me cynical but released late so that it couldn't go in the Chronicle perhaps, people boosted by the signings go to Oakwell this morning for tickets for Saturdays game unaware that McIndoe has left.

Yeh, think you may be right ...but the rest of your points are spot on.
