    Has been training with my nephew (u23) just to keep himself fit, still only 31, 300 n odd games under his belt, surely he’s worth a short term contract and brings that experience we’re sadly missing,

    But we do all know Butterfield is - or at least was - a good player and I think he would walk into our current midfield.
    No chance we would sign him on a short term contract though - we cant make any money doing that

    No but he looked good enough for Luton at Oakwell a couple of seasons ago.

    Ok, he didn’t play much after that and he’s been in Australia.

    But is he really a worse bet than our current lot? He’s out of contract so could come in now, and there’s an obvious link within the club given his stepfather is an employee still.

    I’m sure he’d take a deal until January - though how fit is he would be the question. Could he play?

    I’d give it a roll to be honest.

    It's 10 years since he left here though now. From what I understand he's struggled with injuries throughout his career, and doesn't appear to have properly nailed down a place anywhere since a couple of good years at Derby in 2017.

    I agree we need to bolster our midfield in January, but surely there's better options out there.

    I don't think we should be just aiming for 'better than what we've got'. It would be a stop gap. We can find better, I'm sure.

    In fact, I'd much rather we recalled Herbie Kane. He's got some good game time under his belt at Oxford, in a decent side, and might be what we're missing in the middle of the park.

    To be honest I think you have answered your question, the fact that he is plying his trade in Australia & not the UK says it all, before he left these shores he flirted about with several clubs such as Wednesday & Luton & if he was still capable of doing a job at this level a championship club would have taken him on but no club did, hence his 12000 mile trip to find work . I was one of Jacobs biggest fans & I feel sure if he had not had the horrendous injury he had he would have gone on to be a premier league player but alas everything now is history & thats where our infinity with Jacob should remain .
