being caught out ! http://www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2012/jun/21/jimmy-carr-apologises-error-tax?newsfeed=true
Feckin Accountants. Enemy of the People. But seriously, I like the fact that Gary Barlow has been doing this but he did a "great job" with the Jubilee, so thats ok then.
This whole situation stinks I'm no Jimmy Carr apologist and I've no problem with The Times running an exposé on his financial dealings and tax avoidance, but for our Prime Minister to appear on national television in order to single him out as the devil incarnate when we all know he's in bed with individuals and companies that make Jimmy Carr's misdemeanours look like small change is just outrageous. Get everyone pointing fingers at the left wing comic who ridicules the government on 10 O'Clock live while benefactors of the Tory party defraud the country of billions. Divide an conquer.
Re: This whole situation stinks what i want to know is how can a politician call it morally wrong when theyve been dodging taxes for years and years. pot calling kettle one thinks
This apology is about as sincere as the ones made by the MP's who were caught out stealing money through expenses. All he is doing is a damage limitation exercise after he has realised that the vast majority of people, many of whom have put him where he is, think what he is doing is morally wrong. He has been advised that this could seriously damage his career. I wonder if he will pay back the tax he has avoided to date.
Didn`t do much damage to Ken Dodd although he was innocent. Dont pay the Diddymen sounds like a song.
Its a very different world now. The general public seem to be much less tolerant of this kind of 'legalised' stealing by the rich and powerful. Obviously in times of austerity when normal folk are working harder for less it quite rightly causes a sense of outrage when we see the rich avoiding paying their taxes. Sounds like a potential number one to me
Steady on Mario it weren`t that serious, but he`ll turn it into a joke and people will larf and still pay the tax on the ticket to go and see him.
Let's be fair - if we could all get away without paying tax 'legally', then we would. I don't see why David Cameron has to single out Jimmy Carr and make an example out of him, and make him justify his earnings and taxings to the public.
Re: This whole situation stinks Bang on. Seen a quote somewhere where he was asked about Philip Green and he said 'I won't discuss individuals tax arrangements' or something similar. Two faced lovely person. His dad left a few million in his will. Big Dave got 300k. Just under the limit for paying inheritance tax I believe. Viva la f.cking revolution.
I've fallen on that side of the fence a little. His 1% tax is more than what I pay and I pay the going rate. Its the likes of Vodafone and the BILLIONS of tax they avoiding who we should target.
Re: This whole situation stinks It's laughable that Cameron has dared to comment on this. I wonder if he will now look at changing the tax laws so people can't avoid paying their dues because of the loopholes. I very much doubt it as it would upset too many of his chums and the party donors would withdraw support.
