I can't recall being as angry at a manager's comments as I am after listening to that. I understand he's trying desperately to protect whatever shred of confidence is left in his squad, but sending the fans a message that essentially amounts to "get real, we've no chance of competing with most teams at this level" is not the brightest way to go about it. I warmed to him at the start, but the more I hear him talk the more I think he's not nearly as clever as he thinks he is. I hope I'm wrong. I hope him and the players are finding their feet and it's all going to come good soon. But I genuinely thought this season might be different. I genuinely thought we might surprise a few people. The only surprise at the moment is how awful we are.
