If I was paying his wages I'd be pretty annoyed by that Airing criticisms of the way the club acted before his tenure in the run-up to a big match is poor timing at best. At worst it smacks of putting the preservation of his own reputation over and above the interests of the club. By getting this pre-emptive retaliation on the record before the match he's effectively saying "If I get sacked it's because of the short-sightedness of the owner, not because of any failure on my part to fulfil my remit." I keep trying to have patience with Mr Hill but stuff like this really doesn't help. Not that I think it'll make one iota of difference if Saturday goes badly.
Re: Was it this interview ? Spot on. Journalists asking him leading questions probably. Are you worried about the sack? Do you think you will be sacked? Is this a must win game? How much pressure can you feel? Bet he's sick of it. Let him do his job ffs
Jesus mate, you know I've stuck by the bloke, but we're in the bottom 3 now and to quote Hill - if the season ended tomorrow - we'd be down. Maybe it's beyond a fan to expect something from the manager to stoke my fires under the circumstances. I don't give a **** if he stays or goes anymore. The club is ****** anyway but his role as a leader is to find ways to motivate his stakeholders, including the fans. I've never felt so demotivated before a derby match before. I just don't know what relevance or purpose his words have at this moment in time.
He sounds to me like a man that knows he has failed thus far. And had possibly slightly longer than some of our other bad appointments. He's playing a very dangerous mind game. Perhaps he knows in his heart that his days are numbered and the tide is turning. After all it appears that many more reds are starting to realise what some of us have known for a long long time. I so hope we win on Saturday but not for Keith Hills benefit.
The only relevance of his words now are to try and maintain any sort of credibility he has as a football manager but in typical Keith Hill style he is making a complete fool of himself! The guy hasn't learnt anything from his previous mistakes in dealing with the press,he continues to be negative about the club and make a tool of himself at the same time,he's consistent in that area! When things are going wrong it's the real test of a manager and he is proving he's not up to the fight so rather than get his head down and prove himself he's more interested in trying to look to deflect the blame away from himself! When he does eventually leave us I can only imagine that his beloved Rochdale would be the only club that would have him because why would any chairmen want a manager who repeatedly takes any opportunity to knock his employers? This from a guy who openly talks about how intelligent he is!!
Re: Was it this interview ? Hill is paid a good wage to be Barnsley FC manager, he is not doing it for free. If he does not like the question he is asked, then he should refuse to answer them, but all he sees is an opportunity to big up himself and pass the buck to someone else!, If we win on Saturday it will be because he is fantastic, if we lose it will be becaused Wednesday have more money/ are a bigger club and they are the best team in this divsion.
These interviews are prompted by questions and edited afterwards. Where is the rest of the interview? What else did Keith say? The editor has chose to exclude everything else and dwell on what can't be more than 30 seconds of dialogue in answer, no doubt, to a question by an interviewer whose motivation is to provoke a reaction by Keith and to stir things up between himself the supporters. It's a classic journalistic trap and a lot on here who have just walked straight into it. The Chronicle hack clumsily tried the same thing a few weeks ago and folk still can not see it coming. It is sad, because it does damage the club. Slowly, chip by chip.
He should keep his own council on those questions, you say the fans are falling the trap, but Keith jumps in every time !
keith hill is nothing but consistant he has done this from day one opened his mouth and put his foot in it, i believe in my club i always have i always will. He has never shown any belief in our ability to punch above our wieght i am just sick of listening too him and i dont care what he does but the sooner he shuts up the better.
Re: Was it this interview ? Honestly mate, I've never once heard him say that he's fantastic after a win. Granted we haven't won that many. I don't think he bigs himself up. He bigs the team up. But when the players cross the line it's their responsibility to carry out his and Flicker's instructions. If the players aren't good enough then fair enough, we will get beat, but they've shown the odd glimpse that they can compete and can mix it with the best of the Championship. He doesn't send a team out to lose. If they don't perform like they can, then they lose. I honestly don't think anybody else (who would come to Barnsley) could do a better job than him and Flicker with the current crop of players. It's not as if we are rooted to the bottom like QPR or anything. A couple of wins and we're out of it again and looking up. He's right in what he's saying, sacking him won't improve the situation. They brought him in because they thought he was the right man for the job. If he's not, then who's been in the wrong? The board for picking the wrong man in the first place surely?
Maybe the players are carrying out the instructions given by the manager? Maybe its the instructions that aren't good enough.
The interview I heard on Thursday had the reporter asking Keith about Sheff Weds expectations this season, he turned it into a question about him being sacked. I'm guessing Keith had an agenda for his press interviews yesterday and it wasn't The Derby match
