just quoted me £477 to repair an exhaust!

Anyone know what a more realistic price might be?

It depends on the make of car, which section of the exhaust it is

and what you mean by repair.

By the way I'd have no idea of a realistic figure even if you gave that information but someone might. Never go to kwik fit, they're the biggest con men alive

Gie us a clue on whats involved

That sounds like a price for a full system that they need to source from the manufacturer unless you are driving a Ferrari.

Or is it the Cat thats gone?

its always worth getting a few quotes - though Kwick Fit are usually competative.
Have you tried the dealer - quite a few do Exhausts at competative prices as well

A whole new exhaust was needed

    apart from the downpipe.

I wouln't have believed them but saw it blowing in about 5 different places, 3 cracked welds, a crack appearing in the cat and the rear pipe so badly fitted it had started to melt through bumper.

My usual mechanic is away so couldn't get it seen to so had little choice apart from local Kwik Fit.

Sat in their waiting room they lied to just about every customer that came in. Won't use them again but to be fair my car is far better now than it was.

They are buggers mate. Especially when they think you are a bit green or even worse - a female.

They once wanted to do all my brakes when just the front were worn - put it down to being illegal to do front without back - so I took the car to a garage and he sorted it without problem.

Being female can have it's advantages!! Last year I managed to get a nail in one of my rear tyres, and took it to Kwik Fit to get it repaired. He was going to charge me £17 or whatever it was, except I only had a £20 note on me and they didn't have any change. So he charged me a tenner instead!! lol

You should report them to trading standards

If they really told you it was illegal to replace front brakes without doing the back as well because thats not true
