Why? Also, out of interest, are you a member or ever have been a member of the Labour Party? Just trying to see some perspective from a Labour point of view rather than usual Tory dross

No, never been a member.Just a labour supporter for last 40 years. In respect of winning voters back none of the candidates excite me.

There are at least 2 who I think would do a good job and be much more likely to
Persuade people like me to vote labour Starmer or Phillips

If labour elect Long Bailey I will be underwhelmed though

I've been impressed with all of the thoughtful, considered and nuanced views the candidates have offered so far. I don't necessarily agree with all of their analysis but am pleased that it hasn't descended in to meaningless labelling. The real victory would be to see them all in the shadow cabinet once the leadership election has completed.

I certainly hope Angela Rayner becomes deputy leader because beyond the media stereotyping she is very insightful, and as shadow education secretary proposed some genuinely exciting policies.

I wanted Rayner as leader, she's first class. Can't make my mind up on the current contenders. I like Long-Bailey but believe she'll suffer for being so close to Jeremy. So I'm edging towards Starmer at the moment. I don't want Phillips because some of her views on race would sit more kindly on the opposite benches.

To what views on race do you refer?

I just found some of her views on British muslims to be pretty unnecessary really, regards their marriages, how women are treated. It was similar to how I felt when I heard Johnson going on about bank robbers. Then I saw her on TV one day outside a school arguing with muslim parents who were against the teaching of same sex relationships. The way she came across in this instance with the parents was extremely off-putting. She strikes me as a bit of a gobshite, swears a lot on social media, gets into pointless arguments. I know that sits well with some people and you've only to look at who is PM right now for that. But it's not what I'd like in a leader.

I have to say that Starmer looks the most impressive so far and judging by the Tory media, he's the one they fear the most. I'm assuming they're digging for muck as we speak.

Happy to listen to any opinions on it all though as it's a very important choice and I'm open to being convinced otherwise about anyone with the right argument presented. I may have Phillips all wrong and open to hear why. But for now - bed!

Starmer reminds me quite a lot of Blair. Personally he's not really my cup of tea, but I think he's likely to be the most electable on a national level, so I'd go with him. Personally I really like Clive Lewis and Lisa Nandy. Long-Bailey would be a disaster.

    Long-Bailey = 10 years of Boris.

Agree it’ll be ten years of the Tories
Except there’s no way Boris will last that long ‘Get Brexit done’ was strong enough to overshadow his previous misdemeanours, but once were out, a future scandal will see him replaced.

he’s always only 10 minutes away from behaving like a knob.

We (the country) need a Labour leader who’s smart enough to play the politics well. To use influence and guile to attack the Tories from behind (Smith / Blair style).

the Labour Party need to get over the Momentum v the rest, grow up and move forward.

I think that only Starmer has a chance of achieving those things- so whilst he’s politically less aligned with my own views, I think he’s the most promising of the bunch.

the rest appear more concerned with the state of the Labour Party than the country.

You can almost put money on this and sit back and wait to win. With the media as they are he is a dream waiting to happen, as soon as they get bored with him, they will hound him out .

Whoever the leader is on the 4th of April as just to sit back and watch the Torys implode with there no-deal Brexit (that's what we are heading for) and the country marching in their millions in London because of the turmoil and demise of the NHS.
