Why are processors in laptops less in speed than in PC's? Im a bit daft like, but why pay £600+ on a laptop and get a 1.66Ghz processor, when you can get a pc with 3.06Ghz for around £400?

Its all about the room in a PC compared to a Laptop.

    In theory yes,

but the faster the CPU, the hotter it runs.

    RE: In theory yes,

So there arent any laptops with faster processors at the moment? Thanks, this is making sense though now. Is 1.66Ghz sufficient though for modern use?

You can get laptops that are much faster than 1.6ghz. I've had mine for well over a year and mine is faster than 1.6ghz

    Because...

The laptops run at a lower frequency for heat reasons. To compensate they have a larger L2 cache which improves performance. This means that a 1.7ghz Pentium M (centrino) outperforms a Pentium Mobile 2.6ghz machine.

Other things that determine how fast your machine/laptop performs includes the speed of the FSB (front side bus - essentially the how fast your memory runs) and disk speed.

Actually mate I meant to ask you saturday

My laptop is running out of disk space. I've got about 15gig worth of Itunes music files stored on there but I don't use the ipod. I don't wanna delete all the music files tho because I might get sick of sony mp3 players and go back to the ipod at some point.

Do you know any cheap ways of storing those files externally?
