Because postal voting was used, in part, across South & West Yorkshire, these councils only declared their results yesterday. Labour is only just in control of Barnsley, with a majority of 3. I can't say I'm too surprised as things have been heading this way ever since the Independants appeared. What does concern me though is that the BNP finished 2nd in 3 of the 21 wards. I'm pleased that so far the majority of the Barnsley electorate haven't been conned into voting for them but I fear we're not too far away from the day when one of them gets in.
Because of hardware problems the system wasn't set up to measure the swing, but we were suggesting that overall there's a swing away from the BNP.
Darton I think it was Darton, but in one of the wards, the BNP notched 27% of the votes. That is fairly scary.

Did it? Haven't checked. I was at the election count and the people I was talking to thought the BNP hadn't done as well as last time. Didn't have the previous figures to compare with though.
My feeling is that they have - I remember checking the results last year and being a bit concerned by the amount of votes they'd received. I've being feeling a little more worried with the votes this year. Maybe it's just 'cos they finished second in a couple of wards this year that makes more of an impact in my mind... Worrying, nonetheless...
Plus it looks like they've been found out in Burnley - probably due to none of their councillors been arsed to turn up to meetings and being quite proud of the fact too. When you look at the total number of votes cast across the country they're small fry, really...
getting a bit close for comfort in some of the Rotherham wards though..</p> http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/YourCouncil/Local+Democracy/Electoral+Services/_Election+Results2007.htm</p><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="1"><tbody><tr><td valign="top" colspan="4"> Brinsworth and Catcliffe Ward</p></td></tr><tr><td valign="top"> Candidate</p></td><td valign="top"> Party</p></td><td valign="top"> No. of Votes</p></td><td valign="top"> Majority</p></td></tr><tr><td valign="top"> Peter Broomhead</p></td><td valign="top"> British National Party</p></td><td valign="top"> 1149</p></td><td valign="top"> </p></td></tr><tr><td valign="top"> Reg Littleboy</p></td><td valign="top"> Labour</p></td><td valign="top"> 1515</p></td><td valign="top"> 366</p></td></tr></tbody></table> </p>
The BBC? You sure? Is that as in the telly corporation or the football hooligans? Council service round here is good, very good in fact. Provision for the elderly and such like is excellent compared to a lot of places. The BNP are, amongst other things, a bunch of incompetents anyway - if they gained any influence in a general election it'd worry me 'cos of the gas-chambers, if they gained any influence locally it'd worry me because they've a record of missing important votes that they've tabled 'cos they're too busy gassing with one another as well as asking what words like "abstain" mean...
Football hooligans, at least they show respect towards Barnsley not be litting them all the time like the broadcasting company...
Let's give the BNP a chance at least. They might do wonders, can't be any worse than the Labour party... Poet.
