How low can people sink? http://metro.co.uk/2016/04/24/londo...or-runners-from-the-side-of-the-road-5838167/
When I was watching the coverage this morning I saw a few take a bottle and run off without paying, but it was not on industrial scale like this.
Hadn't all the marathon runners gone past the water station by this point though? I'm not saying it's right, but the reports are making it sound like they were depriving marathon runners of water.
theres clearly marathon runners in the still above without even playing the video, however ive read (not sure if true) the water is left once the race is over as its easier to let the locals have it than spend money collecting it up. im sure someone has already paid to clear the empties.
it's media sensationalism as far as i can see. facebook is already awash with 'i bet they're all illegals' type $hit.
i can only imagine, illegals, immigrants, dole ites, benefits, stealing our jobs, brexit.... ohh a little political there!
Didnt it turn out that the marathon organisers hadn't paid for it and hadn't acknowledged requests for payment so the supplier cancelled the order?
i don't think it was ever confirmed absolutely. one side said they'd paid for it, the other said they hadn't. was a brilliant day that. a real triumph of human spirit
i spoke to some official on the day. basically they said they could have sourced some, but they couldn't guarantee the amount they needed at each water station, to satisfy HSE regs for the insurance certificate. they would have ended up in real $hit if they'd tried and failed. nonetheless, the people & shops of sheffield managed to mobilise in the space of 15 minutes. was brilliant.
If they had tried a little bit harder there could have been over 20,000 bottles delivered within half an hour of a request being made. And that was just from one company
Speaking of stealing water, listen to this nob...
The most these people could be damned for is selling the water on. So then, imagine a life in which it was a really attractive option to take a caddy and stack it full of water and lug it home for the sake of a quid or two a pack.
