Sat a couple of rows behind him at Wimbledon Centre Court a few years back, was polite and had time for everybody who wanted a handshake, autograph or selfie, RIP.
Sad News, seemed to be a great bloke as well and fun to be around on the TV when I ever saw him. As others have already said, his performance along with Di Matteo was about as good as anything I have ever seen at Oakwell. Great Player and was one of the worlds best strikers in the 90s, even Mick Lynch would say so.
RIP Gianluca , reiterate what’s already be said one of the best players I’ve seen at Oakwell , his 4 goals against us will always be remembered
Ashamed to say I had no idea he was so ill. RIP Gianluca Vialli. There are a few players over the years that stick in your mind having seen them play live at Oakwell. To me, along with Bergkamp, he was one of the genuine world class elite forwards I've had the "pleasure" of watching play such a simple game. He was poetry on motion on that August Sunday in 1997, a footballer on a completely different level to most.
Absolute shock to hear this. RIP. I wasnt at Oakwell that day, but remember watching him on Sky against us.
This is indeed terrible news. Cancer is SO pointless, why it takes so many is beyond imagining. Remember him in the 1980s/90s along with the other great Italian players, who I'm afraid to say I can't remember their names, on Channel 4 Sunday afternoon live Italian football. He and they oozed class. Sunday dinner at my mum's in Darfield, footy on the telly, then a good nap on the settee. What could be better?
Incredibly sad news. We as Barnsley fans were on the receiving end of his talents back in August 1997. However, our respect for him has always been high since that day and we're now upset with grief at his passing at far too early an age. R.I.P. Luca.
One of the greatest individual performances I have seen against us at any Football ground when he scored four against us. Le Saux had a field day supplying him the ball. I wouldn't be against our media department posting his performance in his memory. I think it deserves to be seen.
I remember this well. Maybe our second home fixture in 97? He was way too good for us. I remember thinking that if this is is typical, the season could be a total embarrassment. It wasn’t of course. But as other commentators have said, it’s not all down to the quality of his football, his passing is mourned because he was a class act off the field, as well as on it.
