    I'm not going to trawl the internet,but I'm sure when he was managing Liverpool it was said that he never played the game as a pro.
    I cant remember his name,but I'm also sure the bloke who managed brazil to their world cup win in the nineties never played as a pro either.

    Gerard Houllier was a teacher before a football manager and I don't think he played football (at any serious level)

    Bertie Mee who managed Arsenal to the second League and Cup double of the 20th Century in the early 70's. He trained as a physio and had worked in football in that capacity. He had two good assistants in the shape of Dave Sexton and Don Howe who covered his lack of tactical knowledge.
