    Reds fail in defender bid

    BARNSLEY
    By Simon Meeks

BARNSLEY have been knocked back in a bid to land veteran Wigan defender Matt Jackson.
Oakwell boss Andy Ritchie has spread the net, attempting to bring experienced players to the club.
Unsurprisingly, an inquiry about the 35-year-old Jackson, who played in the Premiership at the weekend, was cold-shouldered.
Ritchie says Jackson was one of several targets and that he is determined to bolster his squad with a loan signing ahead of Thursday tea-time deadline.
Barnsley are still talking to striker Danny Cadamarteri.
"I want to sign him until the end of the season," Ritchie confirmed. "He is the right age, he can play up front or out wide. He could do us a job."
Cadamarteri is 27 and without a club after serving a six-month suspension for failing a drugs test.
He has been training at Oakwell.
Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd is expected to negotiate with the player's agent, initially offering a month-to-month contract.
Meanwhile, Ritchie has stressed his commitment to Barnsley despite talks aimed at extending his contract being put on ice.
"I've already gone on record as saying I'm disappointed and feel let down, but you just have to get on with it," he said.
"I'm just going to get on with the job and that's trying to win football matches to get us out of trouble. I'm committed to that.
"Other people keep saying it must affect the players, but I'm not so sure about that and I'll be keeping my own counsel."
Barnsley have been drawn at home to either Stevenage Borough or Leyton Orient in the third round of the FA Youth Cup. The tie has to be played before December 16.
    Stevenage face Orient tomorrow.

"I'm not so sure about that and I'll be keeping my own counsel"

In other words, the players could not care less?

If they wanted to do him a favour

they need to show more on the pitch than they did against Palace.

If we'd have asked 3 weeks ago when I first mentioned it

when he was turning out for the stiffs, maybe we might've got a month outta him.

some more names: Andy Todd and Dominic Matteo (Blackburn), Ehiogu (Boro), Davenport and Gardener (Spurs), Collins (West Ham), Neil Collins (Sunderland).

strikers: Thorne (Norwich), Shipps or Panicbuy (Blunts).

    I can do that too:

Here is a list of players we won't sign:
Ronaldo (Man Utd), Drogba (Chelsea) & Taylor (Oldham).

The day you beat my Brian Howard prediction (10 months before he joined) is the day I admit you know something about football, which you don't.

Heard in a pub near Headingley

    SM: "We might sign McIndoe."
TFP: "No we wont. Darren Hayes teld me we wont."
    SM: "Reighto."

my 'contact at the club' is more reliable than yours.

ps. find that post where you suggested David Wheater.

    Wrong diddly wrong, wrong.

I said Darren knew **** all about it, not that we weren't going to sign him.
I also said he knew **** all about McPhail at that time & **** all about Chopra ... but feel free to twist that into what you want - you set of full time Joeys.

I don't have a contact at the club.
I prefer to have my own opinions.

Sarah this, Gord that, cup of tea this ...

    Fair dos

my memory must be fading. I think I also pointed out to some random that I took Rasiak to be top scorer at 20/1. cos Im not a football man.

Darren said this, Darren said that, corporate do this, corporate t-wa.at that.

    Pfff.

To be fair - the Rasiak call may turn out to be a good one.
    I'm sticking with Chopra though.

I got the Flinders thing wrong - as I was told something else was going to happen (not by Darren, by the way, who I don't really speak to).
I also got a few others wrong.

    These things happen.
We can't be right all the time.

    We're not all Windy.
