Just been released by Huddersfield. I thought he got a bit of unnecessary stick from some sections of supporters and not given a fair crack at it at Oakwell (If I remember right he played left back for us, even though we bought him as a CB). Would you have him back ?

Great lad is matty and was highly thought of after leaving us. I’d take him back over what we currently have in a heartbeat.

Me too. Was never a right back but decent centre back.

Didn’t we play him right back . He’s scored a few goals too . Better than what we’ve got at moment

Old fashioned pro. In first, last out. 100% effort. Albeit limited on the ball.

Would be another slow addition to the backline, but he’s got the sort of character the squad lacks.

Huddersfield fans seem pretty pleased to see the back of him. A few saying his attitude isn't great.

That couldn’t be further from the truth either mate, he’s a proper workhorse and his attitude is one of his biggest attributes. Proper old school grafter.

We've got Shepherd, Lopata, Earl, MDG and Roberts. Earl will be better at centre back with a proper full back alongside him. Lofhouse at rightback and Gent at Left back. I'd sign another left back as cover and a right back. I wouldn't be signing any centre backs until we've moved some on. One of the rubbish facets of having such a large unbalanced squad.

There are key areas but players need shipping out first.

Wouldn't be sad to see the back of some of those. I'd keep shepard and probably roberts.

The key business for us this window will be finding a cost efficient way to move on players that add little to the squad. You'd assume McCarthy would follow Pines, but we're still left with 5 Centre halves plus Barratt who you'd like to see step into the first team here and there. I'd like to see DeGevigney and Earl moved on if we can and I think a new signing to play alongside Shepherd, ideally with good mobility. We've then Roberts who could play against more old fashioned forwards and Lopata and Barratt as cover. Full backs, given we're shifting to a 4... I'm not sure where to start...

If you think we were bad defending this year, then playing Earl as a centre back in a four-man defence would be all kinds of horrific.

He's alright at left back. Until Gent returns in 2026. We all know Josh by now. He can be good, but he often plays as though in his own head he's Maldini. I like that he takes risks, he's brave etc, but not at centre half in a two. We need some pace in central defence and assuming Conor sticks with Robbo (surely he will) then Shepherd next to him makes sense as he's left-pegged and quite quick for a centre half. It cannot be Roberts and MDG. The last few weeks show why.

Not against Lofthouse having another crack, but he's a wing-back like the others. In an ideal world I'd move him and Corey on and find an actual 'defence first' right back. I'm happy with Cotter further up the field, or to have as a utility player. He's versatile and has a great attitude.

**a reminder that I know nothing about football, and in 2011 suggested we get rid of Vaz Te after a handful of appearances AND I genuinely thought Cosgrove was a great signing at the time. :D

We've enough centre backs with no pace as well as most of the midfield. I'd like us to sign a centre back or midfielder that can actually run instead of trot. Pearson would be OK if those around him could cover the ball over the top. As it is, no one on the books does that

Nice replacement for Bradford when they don’t get Shepherd.

I'm just going off what's on their forum mate, and I know to take that with a pinch of salt because I know how football forums can be (some on here reckon Fabio Jalo is overweight for example). They alluded to him being off to Bradford and looking disinterested in the final couple of months of the season.

I always liked him when he was with us, thought he deserved a better crack at it, so wasn't surprised when he did so well after leaving us.

Not sure he's what we need now though, whichever defenders we bring in need to have at least a modicum of pace.

It isn't. He was shushing the fans during a game not that long ago and had to apologise. He gave downing tools performances and spent a fair chunk out injured.

I’d have taken Pearson in a heartbeat….if we could’ve offloaded MDG and at least one of Lopata, Earl and Barrett.
He’s a good defender at L1 level and a big threat in the opposition box, something we badly miss.
