Re: Is dull & sycophantic towards Bruce & Bobby ? His first david platt joke was **** but didn't stop him having another go
People have the right to have a opinion pal. But I believe in the players, and I do think we have a really really good squad to compete in the championship. Just stop slagging off and get behind them.
I think lots of people believe we have a decent squad, me included, unfortunately I (note the I, not everybody,) I think Flitcroft is running out of time to make a team out of them.
My worry is that, with the vast majority of supporters blessing in the Summer, we've given a completely inexperienced manager the scope to basically change the board, the set up in the background and do what he likes. The Board need him to win a few before Christmas to avoid making a decision.
Totally agree mate, I think these next few games are going to go a long way to shaping flickers future, oh and congrats on WSB 2 , really enjoyable read again
I don't think that's true mate. It was a year ago that Don Rowing told us he was going to retire at the end of the season, when we had that BBS meeting at the club. Flicker was just the assistant manager at the time. Board room changes were going to happen, whether we kept Hill, brought in Flitcroft or went with someone entirely different. Maurice Watkins is a friend of Patrick Cryne's not of David Flitcroft's, it was Patrick that brought him to the club. Mr Watkins then recommended Ben Mansford for the position in which he is currently employed. Flitcroft may have made a lot of noise about wanting changes before he signed his contract, but the new set-up is entirely Patrick's doing. Personally, I thought he did a damn good job of restructuring, in my opinion things are improving, even if that isn't reflected by the results on the pitch. I think the results will improve too, I think Flicker does have something to offer as a manager, but if he hasn't, if we don't improve, I trust the new board to make the right decision at the right time. Flitcroft is working for the board, not the other way around, even though the present set-up wasn't in place when Flicker first took on the job.
Fair points mate. My point is that (or at least it looks like) some of the assurances we gave Flitcroft were changes in the boardroom. I'm not saying he went and said 'I want Maurice & Ben' but I think considering what we know it's fair to assume he wasn't that happy having Rowing at the club. Maybe that pushed Don's retirement forward, maybe it didn't. My point is that the board, whoever it is, has given Flitcroft a lot of support both from an increased budget (according to Mansford) to allowing him to make changes to things from coach travel, hotels, training programmes to the pictures on the wall. And despite his amazing achievements last year it was a massive risk considering his lack of experience. Does that make it harder for the Board to make a decision? Who knows.
There's no doubt the board have backed Flicker, both in terms of looking after the players and bringing in new recruits. Makes you wonder why we went through all that financial fair play stuff. We lost Mark Robins due to offering a reduced budget, he's still the only manager since we came back in to this division to have gone through a season without any threat of relegation what-so-ever. We then hamstrung Keith Hill. Flicker comes in and we appear to be back to spending the kind of money we were a few years ago when we were in the red. However, I think that means the board are more likely to sack him, not less: "Look mate, we've given you an increased budget, you've brought in all these players and we're still at the bottom of the league..." If results don't improve Flicker will go sooner or later. He knows that and the board know that. It happens to all football managers. Personally, I think results will improve, I think they've already begun to improve, and it will no longer be an issue.
Because the club are in a state now Jay that they can offer these wages and still make a profit or at worst run at even and that's got to be a good thing surely. I thought this would happen and it's worked out nicely. I think this will have been in the long term plan and whilst other are reducing we aren't.
That first paragraph. Spot on. We had a strategy at board level, spend what we've got. If we make more money from player sales then fine, you get to spend that too. I'm hoping that we will still be in the black and the money we're seeing spent on Butland/Fox/The John Stones fitness and leisure centre isn't coming from Mr Cryne now he's out of the water. I see your point about more likely, however, it feels all eggs in one basket. Does it make the board look daft if we do sack him after all the inflated expectations we were fanning in the Summer? I dunno.
Nothing but praise for the way the Club backs the manager. This season, more than ever. Everyone is very disappointed with how things have panned out. I don't think we should pull the trigger on Flicker just yet. But I don't think it will be long, if things don't improve pretty quickly. Now more than ever, we just can't afford relegation.
