....Defensively. They are the actual words from Mr Wilson. Is he for real. We are in the position where we need wins and he comes out with that. Do we stop playing Cranie cos he doesn't bust a gut to sprint forward when we are attacking ..no we don't. Get Paddy on the pitch and we probably see the opposition creat less going forward cos of the possibility of a counter attack from Paddy alone. Spoke to Paul Dickov this morning and he even said once he saw Paddy come on the field late on he though oh no ! . Dickov said if he had Paddy he would start every game possible and would play the ball to his feet and let him just run ... He also siad you biuld a team round him and not expect him to tackle but to run run and run at the opposition. Oh and Dannyboy played 4 3 2 1 with wingers and 1 up top cos other teams got results with that formation aganst Donny. Thoughts on this.....
Wilson's spot on, glad to see dickov thinks he as the players to win the ball and get it to paddy constantly but we don't, 9 times out of 10 the next person to touch the ball after paddy is one of theirs that mean your trying brake them down all the time and win the ball back and we don't have players to do at the top end of the field and we end up under pressure at the back we're not good enough to play a player like paddy
Time to drop Peter Ramage because he can't pass to one of our team then. Danny's obviously forgotten the impact Clint Marcelle made and Martin Bullock not exactly tough tackling midfielders. Attack is the best form of defence when you can't actually defend that well.
Aye let's play the toilers who create nowt instead one win in nine that plan seems to be failing does it not?
3 defeats in 9 and it would be me without the toilers, we're performing better under Wilson without paddy then we where with paddy under filicker.
I can see both sides of the argument. He does offer us a very real threat going forwards when, and I emphasise the when, he is on his game but we are a man light in midfield when we're put under any pressure. I'd have him on the bench and bring him on for half an hour when legs were getting tired.
I think the reason Paddy played well at the weekend is because we used him to best effect, bringing him on when the opposition is wearing down. What happened, he ran at them, forcing a throw in, in a decent area of the pitch, which we scored from. He's not going to have that same effect starting a game in my opinion.
He had a decent effect when he stated against Middlesboring and Brighton but has done little or nowt as a sub.
Ronnie Glavin couldn't be trusted to defend but I didn't want him to. His strength was attacking as are Paddys. You build a team round your best players. Technically he is head n shoulders above any other squad player we have, were in a pretty desperate position in the league,so its time Wilson finds a role for him in the starting line up and not on the bench.
I agree with Danny. McCourt is technically a wonderful player, as he's shown against Middlesbrough this season BUT he doesn lose the ball too often in dangerous areas. Would be well suited at a side with no pressure on them.
Of course we clearly have a good enough squad to disregard a player with International and champions league experience...
How many goals has Paddy cost us this season? I can't think of any because when he's lost the ball its been in the attacking third. How many points have we won purely down to his individual brilliance? Middlesbrough, Brighton spring to mind as matches we would have lost if we'd played the current team of toilers. He also rang rings round Wednesday, Leicester & Burnley who shat themselves every time he had the ball. Pigs at work couldn't believe he didn't play at Swillsborough after the mauling he gave them at Oakwell. He needs to start matches if we want to win any games. If he's **** he can always been taken off. Don't see the point in saving him for when we're losing
I'm happy to go with Wilson's judgement on this & have him as an impact player off the bench. My issue is he is waiting too long to bring either Paddy or Cwyka on to go for the win. The sub should be happening so they've got at least 25 mins to have a major impact. Having either of then running at tired legs is a massive asset that we should be using. Using Glavin, Marcelle & Bullock as examples don't really work for me. Football's changed. Unfortunately it's about been an athlete first & foremost. Players are fitter & stronger than they were back then due to advances in sport science. If players like Mata can be dropped because he doesn't work hard enough then someone like McCourt's got no chance of a start.
