I just been thinking about when we beat Bradford City to clinch promotion.I remember crossing from the east stand to the west stand just behind the directers box and shaking the hand of a very tearful Jock Steele. Then this bloke asked me if I had a ciggarette it was John Sadler from the Sun newspaper he said he never thought he would see the day when a team like Barnsley would go into the Premiership. He asked for my name and how long I'd been watching the reds and he said he would give me a mention in mondays edition but he never did. What are your memories of that great day.

Thinking before the game that it was too much of a celebratory atmosphere, as though we thought we only had to turn up.

Wilkinson nodding home at the Ponty end and going wild.

2nd half and Bradford tearing down the wing in front of East Stand and a cross into box that came close to being turned in.

Then Clint going through, seemed almost in slow motion and then the ball hitting back of net and we were leaping around hugging each other.

My mate saying he wouldn't be out as he was going to a work mates birthday do in Chesterfield, another mate saying he wasn't going out as had other plans....so I thought "**** it, I'll go out on my own, not missing this in town", then my mate phones up to say he'd changed his mind, and his mate in Chesterfield had said "I don't blame you, didn't expect you to come after that!"

Coming out of the house at 7pm and hearing the singing from town....getting louder as I walked down Pitt St and then seeing a packed Peel Square.

Town was superb that night, was full of blokes (don't recall any lasses being out) but that didn't matter, everyone with a smile on their face, some bloke kissing my Barnsley shirt!

Being in the Ticket Office and they had a big screen behind the bar with just the teletext page of the league table on!

Chants of "Cheer up Mark McGhee" in the Corner Pin

    Just remember

the way that Wilkos head crept in... seemed to take ages to go in. And how Bradford kept us hanging on, hitting the post etc. Clint getting the winner and one of the major papers going with 'CLINT MADE MY DAY'.

There was just the emotion. The people. It was just such a pay off for allthe loyalty that so many people hadshown. The singing and the singing. The game was so nervous and edgey. If we had relaxed we could havehammeredthat Bradford side by four or five or six. We made it hard work.

from the moment my cousin phoned to say final whistle gone at grimsby

he was listening on the radio, i was watching on teletext (how fecking sad is that) the reat of the week and saturday am were just surreal, got to Barnsley earlier than usual, after getting petrol at the usual service station on m62 and was very nervous, the rendidtin of youll never walk alone before the game had the hairs on the back of me neck on end, Wilkos goal, it was our day, they missed a couple of chances, it was our day, Clint scores, 10 mins left, good grief, it really was our day, sat in front of a couple i hadnt seen for years who had got back together (divorced for the day), unbelievable jubilation, didnt want the day to end, went for a pint, then back to cousins for a pizza and then into tarn, unbelievable, never kissed so many blokes in my life (not in front of the wife anyway lol), then back to some pub near the top of summer lane, John kelly the director was in, what a night...puked up at me cousins during the night, went and bought every chuffin paper, then drove home, was off all week, the party never stopped although i just wished i could have stopped in barnsley all week
coud write a book about that day/week

    Walking back to the car

down the Ponty Road towards Hoyle Mill, all the cars streaming past with Red scarves and horns blowing.

Also me and my dad (77 at the time) on the pitch at the Ponty end looking at the dirty mark on post where Bradford should have scored. And the Bradford fans staying behind to watch the party.

Oh and not forgetting the tw*t Man U fan in the pub that night saying "You'll be straight back down next season". As if I could have given a sh*t.

    I kissed Clint

I was lucky enough to get a ticket in the executive suite. It was a free bar except champange (guess what I ordered at the final whistle!) and I wandered outside and saw Clint. I just grabbed him and gave him a right smacker. He would have gone red but.......

What a day the best yet still dream about it.

    14 Pints.........................................................................

and having to virtually fight my way out of the Coach and Horses so I could continue the celebrations in Wombwell where I had arranged to go out with my Wife and Sister. The Landlord of the Dove had closed the pub cos he said he hadn't had his tea.

Had a pint or two in the Royal Oak and boogied the night away to a Rock band who came from Chesterfield. Status Quo covers never sounded so good. A mate of mine was dancing away and he had an attack of the rubber legs syndrome, dead funny that was.

    It's a fair cop

Putting a spelling mistake in a spelling correction is worthy of being abused - I accept anything I get
