Wow, anyone watching Masters, his 1st game, its currently 4-4 and Sheron has scored all 4 for Man City. Shame he couldnt finish like this for us
Come back when you know something about football! Seriously! Both good players, contributed a lot to the team and Dyer wouldn't have got half the goals he got without Sheron. Both him and Macken brilliant at playing on the last defender, as was Andy Payton. I can accept difference of opinion as to the play and about the transfer fee but to include them amongst the worst to have played for us is absolutely ridiculous.
Agree with that There's been 'uggins of players with nowhere near the skill Sheron had. But we didn't pay £1.5 million for those and they weren't on anything like what he was getting paid. Bags of ability but half of the time he didn't look like he could be arsed and in the end he had more poor games than good ones.
Are we on about the same Mike Sheron? He was overpaid and didn't show very much effort or interest to justify his wages. Stealing a living definitely describes Mike Sheron.
Seems like a fair comment to me. No doubting he had some ability but he didn't show it half of the time for us, in the end we were paying the wages of a top player for somebody who wasn't much use to us. Am I remembering it wrong?
If soccer base is right, he played 138 games and scored 40 goals. Somewhere between one goal in three or four games right? Why do I remember him missing so often? The kind of chances that were easier to score? My problem with Mike Sheron is that he basically cost the kind of money that should've kept Neil Redfearn at Oakwell until the end of his days. I know who I'd prefer. Some players you know you got the very best of, Mike Sheron really is not one of the players.
No you're pretty much right, he came with the reputation of a top striker and never came close to repaying what he cost us throughout his time with us. To add insult to injury he was a lazy b'stard and refused to help with a deferred pay deal when the club went into administration. He was a mercenary tw@t.
i always liked Sheron. very clever, TOO clever at times.. made 50% of Dyers goals, and ill always remember the volley at Hudds. what a goal that was.. i agree he wasnt exactly as prolific as we had hoped. but id swap him for any 1 of about 15 strikers since that were REAL failures. he got dogs abuse from day 1 too. i loved Jud Hristov too but he was worse than Shez, but naybody gave him the same treatment.. BUT, none of em are comparable with Shipps, Super-John or Ruby Murray.. nar THEMS proper forrads..
Agreed entirely. Nowhere near as bad as many make out. And most people seem to forget that he ended up playing on the left and right wing, centre midfield, the link role and everything. He'd be lucky to have played half the games for us actually as striker. Missed some gimmes, as does every centre forward in the world, ever.
From what I can remember of Sheron He was a decent player, but never really lived upto the fee we paid for him. I suppose at the time he was in a team full of stars, Shipperley, Dyer, Hignett, Barnard. I suppose it's easy to say he was a bad player, because he didn't score as many as Hignett, or set up as many as Barnard, but at the end of the day, i'd give anything now for a player who could score 11 goals in 36 league games as Sheron did in a team where he wasn't the star man, almost 1 in 3.
