If and it is IF we are in for this lad, we'd better hope we're still in the market for another couple of decent strikers as well. There'll be mutiny on the Bounty if we just sign a 21 year old lad who failed to cut it at the aforementioned clubs....

There’s a couple of former Cheltenham players Clarke had who suits the model we have. One name mentioned from Yorkshire Post and seems to have some legs in it quietly is Will Alves from Leicester.
Very, very raw. Talented, yes. But in my opinion, he's not good enough to come into a "promotion-chasing" squad and make us better. I'd happily take him if I thought we were also getting a couple of tried and tested strikers, I just don't think we'll be doing that.
The Cheltenham fans opinions on their forum seem mostly favourable about him, barring the odd couple who really didn't rate him. The issue with 'tried and tested' is the cost. Proven at this level is well outside our budget. The best we can hope for is someone younger who has scored at this level or been prolific at the level below. I honestly don't see us getting the lad from Luton, so it's about dropping on a player who might make the step up like he did last season, having had a good season in League 2 the year before. I agree with Darrell Clarke, it's by far the hardest area of the pitch to recruit into, which is why I think we've stacked the supply line, to try and at least make it so whoever does play there, has the best chance of getting us goals.

Agreed. Although just to point out (just checked), in 24 matches for Accrington and Cheltenham, he failed to score a single goal. No professional goal to his name as a 21 year old striker from Arsenal. That isn't great. If we sign him, he'll get my backing, I just think we need to be fishing higher than that.
Not going to comment too much on it as it is most likely another link with no actual truth to it. However, as much as I do agree with your point around proven at this level being too expensive, we also must be able to get better than this lad? No senior goal in mens football despite two loan spells out. There are options that are available like Jake Young who would not command a huge fee and at least have some pedigree of scoring in the EFL and are a similar age. Sorta stinks of another Tedic to me, but like I say, probably wont happen anyway so not worth getting into it too much.
I'm not interested in speculation whatsoever. I just read these threads to see if someone's been signed or not. We'll either sign someone or we won't. Might as well start a thread about someone in tier 3 of the Nigerian league. Difficult though it might be for some we all need to be patient and see if the board end up doing something. We can then happily slag off any new blokes when they actually do sign up.
