I know smith is Young but he has been quite poor. Loose passes and miss timed challenges.

We have got George Williams who is a full back, he played well when he came on last week, right/left back is not that different at all, surely he could do the job

A lot difference when it comes to crossing as he's right footed but with jennings there he should be fine

Williams will come in for Holgate now I guess, so the other option is to move Nyatanga across if Cranie or Ramage are fit...

Berry just isn't up to the job in the middle. Neither is Hourihane who can't be given any kind of defensive responsibility. Pearson, Scowen, Digby or Bailey - two from those four are the best bet. Strange selection today from Wilson. He just opens himself up for abuse picking a team like that.

is that from Radio Sheff, as what i saw today he made 1 in 10 pass reach a Barnsley player and one of those was a back pass to the keeper than nearly didn't make it. I know he is young with potential and still learning but we can't afford so many balls distributed from left back to fall into oppositions hands.

Midfield not performing is starting to become a recurring problem.

That's been the issue all season. Pearson and this new kid should sort it.

I hope so because we'll continue to under perform until we sort it out.

Not been today but Smith's a strange one.

Normally you expects kids that go into the defence to be decent on the ball & a bit lacking off it but I'd say Smith's the opposite, he looks fairly solid defensively but up to now has been fairly poor in possession

Bizarre comments in this thread. Smith had a really solid game yesterday, even more impressive considering he had the awful Jennings playing in front of him. He stopped crosses coming in, challenged where be needed to, and more often than not found a BFC player with his passing - which was difficult to do yesterday as the midfield didn't want the ball. There were a couple of times where he played simple in field passes that opened up the whole pitch for us.

Other than Nyatanga in the first 30 minutes, the whole back four were really impressive. After a performance like that how do you pick out left back as the weakest link?

Waring was poor yesterday. Service to him wasn't great, and he's only young, but too many times he made himself smaller when going up for a challenge. Never looked 6 foot 4.

Not just an awful Jennings, but an awful midfield in general, in front of him. I didn't think Smith was too bad, besides that short ball he played back to Turnbull which nearly put us in trouble.

He stopped challenging because once he won an header I had to run for it himself. No one went up to help or run onto those through balls

He wasn't our weakest link, but he was one of many weak links yesterday. I think you need to watch the game back on player if you think he found a barnsley player more often than not.

There were balls that didn't find a Barnsley player, but they were balls played in to space or crosses in to the box. On the occasions when he played the ball in to space it was because he literally had no options, and often the ball he played was correct and the movement from the other players (mainly Jennings) was atrocious.
