Whilst waiting for Whitey to dig up some more dirt on various players mums, I thought posters might like another quiz. Who were the players to play most games for the Reds at each tier of the Football League. Tier 1 = Premiership Tier 2 = Division 2 / League 1 / Championship Tier 3N = 3rd Division North Tier 3 = Division 3 / League 2 / League One Tier 4 = Division 4 Have fun, and as always E&OE.
Without cheating and looking it up I'd guess at Eaden for the Premiership and Spud for division 4. If not Spud, then Ally Millar. Division 2 may be as recent as Clive Baker, as all his league appearances for us were at that level and I know he is high up in the appearance charts. Then again, we were in Division Two for a few decades, but I can't recall which players of yesteryear are high up on the list. For division 3 I'll guess at Eric and for division 3 north I'll guess at Harry Hough.
Correct answers so far: Tier 1 - Neil Redfern Tier 2 - Tier 3N - Harry Hough Tier 3 - Eric Winstanley Tier 4 - Barry Murphy
Got to be someone from way back I would have thought. Didn't we have 34 consecutive years in the 2nd tier since being founded? Other than that - maybe Phil Chambers, Joe Joyce or even Redders again?
Cheers mate. Not a bad guess then. Knew it was 30+. I suppose you could take the war years off which would make it 28 -ish. On another note - I haven't got the foggiest who played in that era apart from the cup side. Maybe the Answer is Tuffnell or Glendenning.
Clue The player with the most appearances played for the club between 1920/21 season and 1928/29 season. He was a left half and signed from Ardsley Athletic.
I vaguely remember someone called Baines coming from Ardsley. Don't know his first name though but it ain't Leighton
