    True, but between where you disembark the bridge and Cundy Cross, over 1 and a half miles away, there are about a dozen houses on that side of the road.

    BARNSLEY’S new multimillion pound bridge - which will dominate the town centre skyline - is progressing well ahead of its opening in October.

    With the small volume of traffic that actually goes around that area does the road around there actually still need to be two lanes in each direction? It seems to be something that's just left over from when cars used to queue for the crossing to open.
    If they moved it to one lane again it would give room for big pavements for all the fans and a much easier crossing too
